Aarohinee and Avarohinee
When the Dashaa of a planet approaching its exaltation, departing from
debilitation, is known, as Aarohinee (climbing) Dashaa. Conversely, if a
planet has departed from its exaltation, its Dashaa is known, as Avarohinee
(stepping down) Dashaa.
Abhijit Nakshatra
Abhijit Nakshatra is not a proper Nakshatra. It is a period which is
24 minutes before 12 (Noon) and 24 minutes after (Noon) time is called Abhijit
Nakshatra It is very auspicious Nakshatra, even if the whole Panchaang is
not auspicious, one can do his work now.

AL - Arudhaa Lagna
Means Arudhaa of Lagna. A2 means Arudhaa of 2nd Bhaav, and so on.
Antar-Dashaa (AD)
In every Dashaa all the nine planets take their turn and thus divide the
Dashaa in nine periods. So these Sub-periods in a Period are called
Antar-dashaa and thus the sub-divisions of the Mahaa-Dashaa or Dashaa. A
Dashaa's first Anter-Dashaa starts from the same planet's Antar-Dashaa whose
Mahaa-Dashaa is there, for example Mars Dashaa will start with mars Anter-Dashaa.
Antya
Antya is another name of 12H.
Apa-Mrityu See
also Mrityu
Apa means accidental and Mrityu means death. - The death which is by accident.
Death happened due to the three kinds of Yog described under the heading
of Mrityu, or suicide, not getting proper treatment after eating poison or
an accident etc, before reaching full longevity as indicated by the chart.
Argalaa and Virodh Argalaa
Argalaa is intervention and Virodhaa Argalaa means obstruction. (2)
Aatm Ichchhaa Shakti - Self will power.

Ast is another name of the 7H, meaning in the mode of setting.
Astrology
Astrology is the science which deals with the knowledge of man's past,
present and future. This is of five types -
(1) Horary (is concerned with two Houses - the 1st one and the questioned
one and their Rulers; therefore Horary results are very sharp, quick, and
hard answers to the problems, much like a charcoal outline drawing of a person),
(2) Electional (is the creation of chart),
(3) Decumbiture (is the analysis of chart for the first moment the client
realizes that he is sick - it helps to diagnose the problem and its solution),
(4) Inceptional (looks at actual marriage charts, business incorporation
charts to predict the outcome) and
(5) Mundane. Natal astrology looks at the whole chart, so it is more like a photograph
Avarohinee and Aarohinee

Beej Mantra is to invoke a planet or Devtaa, to imbibe its strength. No wonder you
would feel heat when reciting the Beej Mantra because you are invoking a
planet or Devtaa.

9th Lord is the Lord of one's Bhaagya.
Bhaav
Bhaav means House. Thus a chart is divided in 12 Bhaav. Every Bhaav has a
name, for example --
(1) 1st House is Lagna Bhaav or Tanu Bhaav - tells about birth time situation
and self, body etc
(2) 2nd House is

This term used in Jaimini, means the ordinary Lagna as is mentioned in the
ordinary books on Astrology. The sign that rises at birth on any particular
day.

Bhukti (Pratyantar Dashaa)
(1) Consumed, or already finished. In astrology every planet has his own
Period (Dashaa), Sub-Period (Antar-Dashaa), Sub Sub-Period (Pratyantar
Dashaa). Whatever period (time of that particular Planet has passed at the
time of the Native is called Bhukti (or already passed Periofd).
(2) Its another meaning is Sub Sub-Period also.
Mahaa-dashaa (Dashaa or Period) -> Antar-dashaa (Sub-period) -> Pratyantar Dashaa
(Sub Sub-period).

Brahm Raashi
Brahm Raashi is the other name of Makar Raashi (Capricorn Sign). The
Brahm Raashi has been mentioned in the Mahaabhaarat but in the later texts
this name has been has been dropped. Abhijeet Nakshatra was a part of the
Shravan Nakshatra in the Makar Raashi and in the 28 Nakashatra system the
Abhijeet Nakshatra was an independent Nakshatra but belonged to the Brahm
Raashi (another name of the Makar Raashi when Abhijeet Nakshatra was shown
as a separate Nakshatra). This obviously means the use of the Abhijeet
Nakshatra as an independent Nakshatra was discontinued after the times of
the Mahaabhaarat (means, after the 32nd century BC).

Birth Time Rectification

BTR (Birth Time Rectification)
When somebody's birth time is not known, or not certain, or one's life
events do not match with his chart, his birth has to rectified - means "found
out or decided". That is called BTR.
Budh (Mercury)
One of the 9 planets in Indian astrology. He is a highly intellectual Graha.

There are 84 Chakra in astrology. Some famous Chakra are Panch Shalaakaa
(used in fixing marriage), Sapt Shalaakaa (used in Upanayan),
Sarvatobhadra, Shatapad, etc. One such Chakra is Sapt Naadee Chakra, from
which the concept of 28 Nakshatra are divided into 7 Naadee from which Jal
or Amrit are taken. Read Krishi Paraashar and Makarand Prakaash for
details.
Chandra (Moon)
Astronomically it is a Moon, but according to Indian astrology he is
one of the 9 planets. He rules the mind of the native.

Charan/Pad
Every Nakshatra has been divided into four parts, and those parts are
called Pad or Charan. Since the Sun passes through 12 Raashi, each Raashi
is made up of 2 1/4 Nakshatra or in other words 9 Charan make up one Sign.

Charts or Kundalee
Chart is a diagrammatical representation of the planets in the sky. There
are several types of charts in Jyotish. (1) Janm Kundalee or Lagna Kundalee;
(2) Chandra Kundalee - taking Moon House as the Lagna House.
Chaughadiyaa
Conjunction
A Planet is in conjunction with the other when he is posited within the
same House in wide, close or exact contact (in degrees).
Constellation/Nakshatra

(1) An arbitrary formation of stars perceived as a figure or design,
especially 1 of 88 recognized groups named after characters from classical
mythology and various common animals and objects.
(2) An area of the celestial spheres occupied by one of the 88 recognized
constellations.
(3) There are 27 of them through which the Sun passes while the Earth
revolves around it. Since the Sun passes through 12 Raashis, each Raashi
has 2 1/4 constellations.
Cusp
Point. Pointed end. The Zodiacal
degree that marks the beginning of the House or a Sign. A person born on the
first day of the Sign. A point that marks the beginning of a change.

Very weak. A point on the Zodiac where a Planet at its lowest strength.
Deeptaansh Theory
(Light Distance)
Yog, combination of planets or association of planets means when a planet
is close with another planet in the same Sign. But the Deeptaansh Theory
states that the planet should be within 12 degrees of the other planet for
any Yog or association to be valid to be in Yog.

A planet transmits his power to any planet posited in his own Sign. If the
planet is powerful - then the signs ruled by him become powerful

Flaw or fault.
Drekkan
1/10th part of a Raashi, means 3 degrees.
Drishti
Aspect or Sight. There are some aspects through which a planet "sees" or
"aspects" another planet, for example Full Sight, Half Sight etc. Raashi
(Sign) also has the aspects to another Raashi.
Dusthaan
Evil places or houses - 6, 8, and 12.
