Glory of Bhaagvat-1

Paarvatee Jee said - "Bhagavan, Among all Puraan, Bhaagvat Puraan is the highest, because it is full of Krishn's glory. I wish to hear its glory now." Mahaadev Jee said - "Whose even Yagyopaveet was not performed yet, the same Shuk Dev Jee was going from home as a Sanyaasee, seeing this Vyaas Jee got very sad, he called him - "Son, Where are you going?" But trees replied on his behalf. I greet such Shuk Dev Jee. Once Shaunak Jee asked Soot Jee with the desire of hearing Bhagavaan's Kathaa - "Soot Jee, Tell us some story which is sweet to our ears, and destroys our millions of sins. All beings have become sinners, so tell us some way to purify their mind."

Soot Jee said - "Shaunak Jee, Because your heart is full of love towards God, that is why I tell you that means which destroys all kinds of sins. Shuk Dev Jee has discoursed this Bhaagvat in Kali Yug to remove the fear of Kali Yug. There is no other means to purify mind than this. When Punya of many lives arise then only Bhaagvat is obtained. When Shuk Dev Jee got ready to tell Bhaagvat Kathaa to Pareekshit, Devtaa came to him with the pitcher of Amrit and asked him to tell Bhaagvat in exchange of that Amrit. Thus Pareekshit will be immortal [by drinking Amrit] and we will hear Bhaagvat Kathaa."

Shuk Dev Jee thought, "Bhaagvat is incomparable to Amrit, like glass is incomparable to valuable gem", and he did not tell Bhaagvat to Devtaa considering them not worthy to hear this Kathaa. Thus Bhaagvat Kathaa is unavailable even to Devtaa. Pareekshit attained Moksh only by listening to Bhaagvat Kathaa; seeing this Brahmaa Jee got very surprised. He weighed all means to attain Moksh with Bhaagvat Kathaa, all means were lighter than Bhaagvat. If one reads Bhaagvat in one year, it gives many comforts. Who desires for Bhagavaan's Bhakti, he should read it in one month. And if it is completed in one week, it gives Moksh. In earlier times, Sanakaadi Muni told it to Naarad Jee. Although he had heard it from Brahmaa Jee before that, but the method of reading it in one week was told only by Sanakaadi Muni. Hey Shaunak Jee , Now I tell you that Kathaa which Shuk Dev Jee told me considering me his dear disciple.

Once Sanak, Sanandan etc four Rishi came to Vishaalaa Puree for Satsang. There they saw Naarad Jee. They asked him - "Hey Muni, Why are you so sad?" Naarad Jee said - "I came here on Prithvi considering it a big Teerth place and wandered around many places, but I did not get peace, because Kali Yug has inflicted everyone. Beings are busy only to satisfy themselves, they do not do any Dharm Karm. Nobody here is neither Siddh nor Yogee, nor Gyaanee nor a Punya doer. Braahman teach Ved after taking money, women have become prostitutes. Seeing all this I came to the banks of Yamunaa River where Krishn lived His life.

I saw there a strange thing. I saw a young woman sitting there, she was very sad. Nearby her were lying two old men unconscious. She was trying to wake them up, but was weeping  because of her failure to wake them. She was surrounded by hundreds of women who were consoling her. I went near her, that woman stood up and said to me - "Mahaatmaa Jee, just a minute, please remove my worries. When one's good time comes then only he can see such good Mahaatmaa." I felt pity on her, so I asked her - "Devee, Who are you and who are these two men? Who are these women with you? Tell me the cause of your sorrow in detail."

The woman said - "My name is Bhakti. These two men are my sons - Gyaan (knowledge) and Vairaagya (detachment). With Time their bodies have been like this. These women are Gangaa etc rivers who have come to help me but I don't get any peace. Now you listen to my story. I was born in Dravid desh, grew up in Karnaatak and was worshipped in Mahaaraashtra at many places, but when I came in Gujaraat, I became old. Kali Yug people troubled me a lot. Since then I am weak. I love Vrindaa Van, so I came here along with my both the sons. I got my beauty back here, but my sons got old and tired, they are sleeping here. I wanted to leave this place but my sons are now very old, that is why I am very sad. We used to travel together, then how did my two sons got old? You seem to be intelligent, please tell me its reason." Naarad Jee said - "I answer your question soon knowing by my Divine sight. You be happy, may God bless you."

Naarad Jee meditated only for a moment and he knew the cause of it. He said - "This Kali Yug is a terrible period. It has diminished Yog, good conduct etc qualities. All kinds of evil thoughts have swept in people minds. This Prithvi is not worth even to be touched. Because you love Vrindaa Van that is why you have got your beauty back, but there is nobody who can respect these Gyaan and Vairaagya, that is why they are still old." Bhakti asked - "Why Pareekshit allowed Kali to stay here on Prithvi? And why every good thing has disappeared as the kali Yug came? How Bhagavaan is seeing all this happening here?"

Naarad Jee said - "Listen, I tell you everything. The day Krishn left this Prithvi, the same day Kali Yug came here. When Pareekshit saw him, he asked his shelter in a pitiable condition. The King was good so he thought that he should not kill him, because there is a very good quality in this Kali Yug. In other Yug, whatever cannot be obtained even by Tap, Yog and Samaadhi, the same is available in Kali Yug by taking the name of Keshav. In spite of being useless, it is usefulness only in this way. Thinking thus he did not kill him. Whatever is happening here now, it is no fault of people but of Kali Yug." Bhakti said - "You are blessed Devarshi, I have seen you by my good luck. Now please tell me the way by which I may become happy. Only you guided Kayaadhu's son Prahlaad to leave world's treasures, and Dhruv to attain Dhruv Lok. I greet you."

Naarad Jee Helps Bhakti

Naarad Jee said - "Do not worry so much, remember Krishn's lotus feet. Who protected Draupadee from Kaurav, He has not gone anywhere. When you call Him, He goes even to lower peoples' houses. In Sat Yug, Treataa Yug and Dwaapar Yug, only Gyaan and Vairaagya  were the means of Mukti, but in Kali Yug only Bhakti is the only means which can help people attain Moksh. Thinking thus Hari who is Gyaan form, has produced you. You are very dear to Krishn. Once you asked Him - "What should I do?" He said to you - "Just nourish my devotees." You accepted His orders and pleased with this He gave you Mukti as your maid and Gyaan and Vairaagya as your sons. You nourish Bhakt (devotees) in Vaikunth in your real form and nourish Bhakt here assuming your shadow form.

Mukti came here along with Gyaan and Vairaagya to serve you and lived here comfortably from Sat Yug to the end of Dwaapar Yug, but as Kali Yug came here she became afflicted, so she went to Vaikunth Lok by your order. Whenever you remember her, she still comes in this Lok and again goes away. You have kept these Gyaan and Vairaagya as your sons. Let me think the way of their revival. There is no other Yug like Kali Yug. I will establish you in every house. In this Yug, whoever will keep relations with you, in spite of being sinner, they will go to Krishn's Dhaam. When Punya of thousands of lives rises, then only one develops love for Bhakti. One needs lots of means to perform Vrat, Teerth, Yog, Yagya etc; only Bhakti is the giver of Moksh easily."

Hearing this Bhakti felt stronger, she said to Naarad Jee - "You are blessed, you love me very much, I will always live in your heart and will never go from there. You have removed my sorrow but my sons have not yet arisen, do wake them up too." Naarad Jee pitied on them so he started massaging their fingers to wake them up. He did Paath of Geetaa, read Ved; this woke them up but they could not open up their eyes. They were very weak and hungry, so they slept again. Naarad Jee got worried seeing this, so he remembered Govind. The then an Aakaashvaanee said to him - "Muni, Don't be so sorry, your efforts will not fail. You do some Good Karm. What is that Good Karm, saints will tell you this. By doing that they will wake up and they will be young again. Bhakti will also be spread throughout."

Everybody heard that Aakaashvaanee. Naarad Jee could not understand it, so he left thos people there only and he himself proceeded on to Teerth. He started asking every Muni as what was that Karm, but they also could not interpret it. Some said - "It is impossible."; some said - "It is difficult to know."; some kept quiet. Three Lok got perplexed that when Gyaan and Vairaagya did not wake up hearing after Ved or Geetaa, then there is no other means to wake them up. What Naarad Jee does not know, how other people can know it? At last Naarad Jee thought that he would do Tapasyaa for this, so he set off towards Badarik Aashram. When he reached here, he saw Sanakaadi Muni.

He said to them - "It is my good luck, that I have seen you. Now you please tell me the way indicated by Aakaashvaanee, and how it should be completed? How Bhakti, Gyaan and Vairaagya can be made happy?" Sanakaadi Muni said - "Do not worry, Muni. A way is already there to make them all right. Whichever Karm the Aakaashvaanee has indicated to you, we tell you now. Dravya (material) Yagya, Tapo Yagya, Yog Yagya, and self study Yagya (Gyaan Yagya) - all these Karm are the means to attain Swarg etc only; they are not the indicators of Good Karm. Good Karm (which gives Moksh) is only Gyaan Yagya; and reading Shree Mad Bhaagvat is that Gyaan Yagya. By hearing that Bhakti, Gyaan and Vairaagya will get lots of strength. Its sound removes all ill wills of Kali Yug."

Naarad Jee said - "I woke them by reading Ved and Geetaa etc but they did not wake up, how they will wake up only reading Bhaagvat, because every Shlok of Bhaagvat is full of Ved's gist. Please remove my doubts." Sanakaadi Muni said - "Hey Naarad, Bhaagvat Kathaa has appeared from the gist of Ved and Upanishad, that is why it is better than them. It is like butter churned from milk. This Bhaagvat Puraan is considered like Ved. Ved Vyaas Jee has written it to spread Bhakti, Gyaan and Vairaagya. In earlier times, when Ved Vyaas Jee was sad after writing Vedaant and Geetaa, only you told him 4-Shlok Bhaagvat. Hearing that his all worries came to an end, then why you yourself are wondering at this? Bhaagvat destroys all sorrows." Naarad Jee said - "Your Darshan destroys all ill omens and gives peace to sad people. I am in your shelter."
