Maarkandeya Puraan is the 7th Puraan in the row of 18 Puraan. This Puraan is divided   and contains 9,000 Shlok (verses).

This Puraan is in the form of dialog between Jaimini and Maarkandeya Jee. It gives us Devee Bhaagvat and Maarkandeya's Mrityunjaya Stotra. It gives us teachings of Maarkandeya Rishi to Krowshtukee. The most well known portion of this Puraan is the Durgaa Sapt Shatee or the Devee Mahaatmya. In addition to the subjects of Manvantar, it deals with the stories of Harishchandra, Kaartaveerya Arjun, Karm and its usefulness and some portions of Yog are also dealt with. In this Puraan, instead of Shiv and Vishnu, other deities like Indra, Agni, Soorya etc are given more importance.
