2-Padm Puraan, 4-Paataal Khand, p 561-565 This Khand covers the pages 411-609 (220 pages) of the book. It gives the account of Raam's Ashwamedh Yagya, and Krishn's life. Krishn Gives Mukti Mahaadev Jee said - "Once Krishn came to Mathuraa from Dwaarakaa, and from there He went to Brij. There He consoled His father Nand and mother Yashodaa, then He met other elderly Gop, consoled them, and offered many gifts of clothes and jewelry. Then He stayed with Gopee on the banks of Yamunaa for three nights. At that time Nand, other Gop, Gopee, even animals, birds and deer etc assumed the Divine form and went to Param Dhaam riding on Vimaan. After that He came back to Dwaarakaa where He was worshipped daily by Vasudev, Ugrasen, Sankarshan, Pradyumn, Aniruddh etc Yaadav. He killed many Raakshas, gave Mukti to all Dwaarakaa people, then He Himself also went to His Param Dhaam." Vaishnav Dharm Paarvatee Jee said - "Mahaadev, Tell me about Vaishnav Dharm." Shiv Jee said - "First of all it is said for Vaishnav to do 12 types of cleansing. (Two feet, two hands, two ears, two eyes, two nostrils, one forehead, and one Mind - cleansing these 12 parts of the body is 12 types of cleansing.) Smearing Bhagavaan's temple, following Bhagavaan's idol, and circumambulating Bhagavaan's idol - these three Karm cleanse the feet. Gathering flowers and leaves to worship Bhagavaan is the Karm to cleanse the hands. This cleansing is the greatest of all cleansings. Singing the name and praise of Bhagavaan is the Karm of cleansing the speech. Hearing His Kathaa and seeing His Utsav (celebrations) Karm are to cleanse ears and eyes. Smearing Charanodak and touching offered flowers on forehead and wearing the offered garlands are the means to cleanse the head. Smelling the offered flower is said to cleanse the nose and heart. The offered leaf or flower to Krishn's feet is the holiest thing in the world, it cleanses every part of the body. Bhagavaan's worship is said to be of five types - Abhigaman, Upaadaan, Yog, Swaadhyaaya (self-study), and Ijyaa. Cleaning Bhagavaan's place is called "Abhigaman". Gathering flowers and sandalwood paste etc things is called "Upaadaan". My Isht Dev is not different from me - this feeling is called "Yog". To do Jap by understanding the meaning of one's Isht Dev's Mantra is called "Swaadhyaaya". Reading Sookt, or Stotra, doing Bhagavaan's Keertan, studying Shaastra etc also come under "Swaadhyaaya". To worship one's Isht Dev methodically is called "Ijyaa". They give Saarshti, Saameepya, Saalokya, Saayujya and Saaroopya named Mukti respectively." Shaalgraam Worship Now I will tell you something about Shaalgraam worship. Bhagavaan has different names according to carrying different things in His 4-arms form. (see Bhagavaan's Names). In whichever Shaalgraam stone, there are two Chakra at the opening place, and which are marked by white lines - that should be taken as Bhagavaan Gadaadhar. In Sankarshan idol, there are two Chakra, just adjacent to each other, and a red line; and its front part is a bit bigger. In Pradyumn form there is a little yellowness and a very small Chakra mark. Aniruddh form is round and it has a wide and deep hole in its inner part. Besides it is bluish at the opening part and has three lines. Naaraayan's form is of Shyaam color and has the Gadaa-like line and His navel lotus flower is very high. In Nrasinh form, its color is yellowish, has three or five dots and the Chakra is clearly visible. Brahmchaaree should worship this form only. In whichever Shaalgraam stone, there are two Chakra on opposite side, and there are three Ling and three lines, that is Varaah Bhagavaan's form. This is of blue color and its shape is large. Bhagavaan Varaah protects everybody. Kashchap's stone is of Shyaam color. Its shape is round like a whirlpool, dots are found here and there, and its back part is of white color. There are five lines in Shreedhar stone. In Vanamaalee stone, there is the mark of Gadaa. The Vaaman stone is round shaped, has Chakra mark in the center and is of bluish color. Anant stone has various figures and snake body marks on it. Daamodar stone is of bluish color and large and it has the Chakra mark in its center. He protects the world bearing with Neel mark. Whose color is red, has long lines, holes, one Chakra and lotus flower and is large - that stone is Brahmaa's form. Whichever stone has a big hole, thick Chakra mark, and is of black color, is Krishn form. It may or may not have a dot. Hayagreev stone has the shape of Ankush and has five lines. Bhagavaan Vaikunth has Kaustubh Mani and His stone looks very clean. It has one Chakra and is of Shyaam color. Matsya Bhagavaan's stone has a shape of big lotus flower, its color is also white and a garland-like line is found in that. The stone which is of Shyaam color, and has one line with three Chakra in its right part, it is Raam's form. He protects everybody. Shaalgraam living in Dwaarakaa Puree is Gadaadhar form. His Darshan is very good. He is seen marked with one Chakra. Laksmee-Naaraayan with two Chakra, Trivikram with three Chakra, Chaturvyooh with four Chakra, Vaasudev with five Chakra, Pradyumn with six Chakra, Sankarshan Bhagavaan with seven Chakra, Purushottam with eight Chakra, Nav-Vyooh with nine Chakra, Dashaavataar with ten Chakra, Aniruddh with 11 Chakra, and Dwaadashaatmaa with 12 Chakra protect the world. Who bears more than 12 Chakra, he is called Anant. Brahmaa who bears Dand (scepter), Kamandal, and Aksh necklace; and 5-faced and 10-armed Vrishdhwaj Mahaadev lives in Shaalgraam with their weapons. In the region of Gandakee River (Naaraayanee River) there is a place named Shaalgraam. This Shaalgraam stone is found there. Even its touch, leave alone worshipping it, destroys millions of sins of millions of lives. By some great Punya, if somebody gets Shree Krishn Shaalgraam stone marked with Goshpad, its worship frees the man from this world. One should examine Shaalgraam stone very well. If it is black and slippery, it is the best; if its blackness is less, then it is of medium; and if it has some other color then it gives mixed fruit. Who sees the cave in Shaalgraam stone, his ancestors live satisfactorily in Swarg for one Kalp. Wherever Dwaarakaa Puree's stone is (Gomatee Chakra), that place is considered Vaikunth Lok; and who dies there, he goes to Vishnu Dhaam. Who evaluates a Shaalgraam stone, who sells it, who supports its sale, and who supports its price by evaluating it, all fall in Narak. So one should never sell or buy Shaalgraam stone or Gomatee Chakra. Where these two are together - Shaalgraam stone appeared from Shaalgraam place, and Gomatee Chakra appeared from Dwaarakaa, there is no doubt that one will attain Moksh. Method of Applying Tilak (Teekaa) Now I will describe the method of applying Tilak. Tilak is applied on forehead (Lalaat) for Keshav, in neck for Purushottam, in navel for Naaraayan Dev, on chest for Vaikunth, below left breast for Daamodar, below right breast for Trivikram, on forehead (Mastak) for Hrisheekesh, on back for Padmnaabh, in ears for Gangaa and Yamunaa, in both arms for Krishn and Hari. If somebody applies Tilak at the above said 12 places, they please 12 Devtaa. And who pronounces their names while applying Tilak, his all sins are destroyed and he goes to Vishnu Lok. Other Observances Bhagavaan's Charanodak should be drank and sprinkled over all family members and in he house. By drinking it one destroys sins of millions of lives. There are 32 crimes towards Vishnu. Since people do these crimes towards Him knowingly or unknowingly, one should always do Pranaam to Him with the feeling that, "We do many crimes towards you everyday, considering me as your servant, please forgive me for all of them." Dwijaati people should take food two times only - in the morning and in the evening. Vaishnav men should not eat round white gourd (Laukee), garlic, fruit of palm tree and eggplant. Besides they should not eat on banyan, Peepal, Madaar, Kumbhee, Tinduk, Kachanaar and Kadamb tree leaves. Burned, not offered to Bhagavaan, the large sour lemon, leaves and only salt should also be not eaten. If one eats them by mistake, he should take Bhagavaan's name. Rice, Moong, sesame seeds, Bathuaa, raddish, sea salt and rock salt, cow milk yogurt, cow's milk Ghee, full fat cow's milk, jackfruit (Katahal), mango, Harad, Peepal (not tree but the spice), cumin seeds, oranges, tamarind, banana, Revadee, Aamalaa fruit, all preparations from sugarcane juice except jaggery, and all cooked food without oil - these all are edible for a Vaishnav. 175 yards land around an Aamalaa tree is considered as Kurukshetra land. Tulasee Who wears a garland of Tulasee leaves or flowers, he should be considered as a Vaishnav. Who plants an Aamalaa tree, he becomes like Vishnu. One should worship Bhagavaan by wearing Tulasee wood's beads necklace. One should touch Tulasee necklace offered to Bhagavaan, to his head and write Bhagavaan's name on one's body parts from the offered sandalwood paste. One should worship Tulasee with this Mantra (given below) - "Which destroys sins only by seeing, cleanse the body by touching, cures diseases by doing Pranaam to it, frightens even Yam Raaj by watering it, takes to Shree Krishn by planting it, and gives Moksh when offered to Bhagavaan's feet - I greet that Tulasee Devee."
