Once Paarvatee Jee wished to know the real nature of Raam Avataar and asked Shiv Jee to tell her about Him, so Shiv told her about Him in detail and this is known as Adhyaatm Raamaayan. There are various benefits recounted on reading this work. Brahmaa told about this to Naarad Jee which was in turn propagated by Soot Pauraanikaa in the world.

This work has two important sections, namely, Shree Raam Hridayam and Shree Raam Geet. The first one occurs in the Baal Kaand, first Adhyaaya and was supposed to have been told to Hanumaan by Seetaa and the latter was told by Raam to Lakshman in Uttar Kaand. To read the Shree Raam Hridayam three times in the Sannidhi of Hanumaan is supposed to result in the fulfillment of all wishes.
