Puraan | 9-Bhavishya Puraan | 4-Uttar Parv
9-Bhavishya Puraan, 4-Uttar Parv-83-84, p 471 Dharanee Vrat Krishn Jee said - "I tell you one secret; when Prithvi went to Rasaatal at the time of Pralaya, she did a Vrat for her upliftment, by the effect of that Vrat Bhagavaan Naaraayan assumed the form of Varaah and took her out of the water. It should be done like this. On the 10th of Shukla Paksh of Maargsheersh (Agahan), one should do his daily chores and worship and take very little Havishya and keep meditating on that day. Keep fast (not eating anything) on next day, on 11th (Ekaadashee), and do Jaap of Bhagavaan's names. Next day, on 12th, after doing daily chores, worship Naaraayan. Establish four pitchers as four seas in front of Him, keep four pots full of sesame seeds on those pitchers. In the center of those pitchers, on a wooden stool in a water pot, place an idol of Matsya (fish) Bhagavaan made of gold, or silver or wood and worship it and pray it. Keep wake in the night. Next day, on the 13th, worship four Braahman and offer those pitchers to those Braahman. The idol along with pot should also be given to a Braahman couple. Whoever does this Vrat like this he lives long, is freed from all great sins; and if does it with Nish-Kaam mind then attains Mukti. In the same way, one should worship Koorm Bhagavaan on 12th of Shukla Paksh of Paush Maas by keeping fast. In Maagh Maas, worship Varaah Bhagavaan; in Phaalgun Maas, worship Narasinh Bhagavaan; in Chaitra Maas, worship Vaaman Bhagavaan; in Vaishaakh Maas, worship Parashuraam Jee; in Jyeshth Maas, worship Bhagavaan Raam and Lakshman; in Aashaadh Maas, worship Bhagavaan Vaasudev (Krishn); in Shraavan Maas, worship Buddha Bhagavaan; in Bhaadrapad Maas, worship Bhagavaan Kalki. Thus one should worship ten Avataar in 10 months. In Aashwin Maas, worship Bhagavaan Padmnaabh; and in Kaartik Maas, worship Bhagavaan Vaasudev. Whoever does this Vrat for 12 months, he gets freed from all sins and attains the closeness of Vishnu Bhagavaan. Because this Vrat was done by Dharanee Devee, that is why it is known as Dharanee Vrat. Vishok Dwaadashee Next he should adorn Soop (Chhaaj) with clothes and flowers and fruits etc and worship Lashmee Jee. Vratee should drink Kush water in all nights and sing and dance in all nights. Early in the morning he should worship three or one, according to one's capacity, sleeping Braahman couple, saying "Jala Shaayinay Namo Astu". Feed them their favorite food and hear Puraan etc the whole day. He should do it every month. In the end he should donate a bed with bedding and jaggery-cow and pray like this, "Hey Vishnu, As Lakshmee never goes away from you, in the same way beauty, health, and happiness should not leave me." Who desires prosperity, he should donate bed and jaggery-cow and Soop with Lakshmee pronouncing Mantra." Yudhishthir asked - "Bhagavan, What is the method of jaggery-cow donation, its form and the Mantra with it should be donated?" Krishn said - "Jaggery-cow donation destroys all kinds of sins. The day one wishes to do it, smear the floor with cow dung and spread four arm long deer skin whose front part is in east direction. Then take one smaller deer skin (imagining a calf) and keep it near the larger one. Then consider east side facing and north feet cow with calf. Take 12 mound (480 Seer or 450 Kilograms) jaggery for cow and three mound jaggery for calf - this is the best quantity for a cow and calf. Otherwise take this according to one's capacity and cover them with white thin cloth and worship them with the following method (method is given on p 470). Then donate it to Braahman. The same method is used to donate Ghee, sesame seed etc cows. There are 10 sin destroyer cows - (1) jaggery-cow, (2) Ghee-cow, (3) sesame seed-cow, (4) honey cow, (5) water-cow, (6) milk-cow, (7) sugar-cow, (8) yogurt-cow, (9) juice-cow, (10) the real cow. One should donate these cows according to one's capacity, but for Vishok Vrat only jaggery-cow is prescribed. One may donate these cows on the days of Uttaraayan and Dakshinaayan, Vishuv Yog, solar and lunar eclipses etc.
