Puraan | 9-Bhavishya Puraan | 3-Pratisarg Parv
9-Bhavishya Puraan, 3-Pratisarg (4), p 340-342 The fourth
Part of Pratisarg Parv of Bhavishya Puraan is very important with the viewpoint
of history. In this part history of all the four legs of Sat Yug, Tretaa Yug,
Dwaapar Yug and Kali Yug is given. Besides, the history of the previous births
of many Aachaarya, saints, Bhakt poets, is also given. They are said to be the
Avataar of 12 Aaditya, 11 Rudra, 8 Vasu, or 2 Ashwinee Kumaar. Special treatment
is given to Chaitanya Mahaaprabhu and that he got absorbed in Jagannaath Jee.
But there are some incoherencies also which create doubts in their originality.
Dhanvantari, Sushrut, and the Great Poet Jayadev (Chap 9) Soot Jee said - "Hey Muni, Brihaspati Jee told further to Dev Gan - "Hey Indra, Listen to as how in ancient times Soorya Dev appeared in Pratishthaanpur by the order of Bhagavaan Shankar in the end of Tretaa Yug. In the end of Tretaa Yug, there lived a king named Pareekshit in Sinhal Dweep. He was very religious and the worshipper of Devtaa and guests. He had a daughter named Bhaanumatee. She used to observe Soorya Vrat. She worshipped him and offered Bhog daily. Pleased with her worship, Soorya Dev used to accept that Bhog at mid-day time. One day Bhaanumatee went to Nalinee Saagar to take bath and entered the water to take bath. At the same time Naarad Jee came there and expressed his desire to marry her, but the girl told him that it was not appropriate. Because of this Devarshi Naarad got embarrassed and became ill. Naarad Jee came to Shiv and told everything to him. Shankar worshipped Soorya and Soorya made Naarad's body healthy and beautiful. Then Soorya asked Shankar Jee - "Prabhu, What else can I do for you?" Shankar Jee said - "You go in Mrityu Lok by the name of Savitaa and marry Pareekshit's daughter Bhaanumatee." Soorya went there as Savitaa, worshipped Soorya and got Soorya Lok. The same Savitaa started shining in Paush Maas. That is why you also worship Soorya and do Devtaa's work." Indra worshipped Soorya in Paush Maas and Soorya said to him - "I will be born as Dhanvantari in Kaashee and will make people healthy suffering from Kali's diseases." Then Soorya was born in Kalpdatt Braahman's house as Dhanvantari.* * Note - Kaashee king Divodaas has been said the incarnation of Dhanvantari. But Dhanvantari is known to be appeared from the sea at the time of Saagar Manthan from other Puraan and Aayur Ved books. Kaashee Khand of Skand Puraan describes his story in detail. He made prince Sushrut his disciple along with other mature people and taught them Kalp Ved (Aayur Ved, or Indian traditional medicine). A deteriorated body through disease is called Kaalp, that is why this knowledge is called Kalp Ved. After learning it Aachaarya Sushrut created a 100 chapter "Sushrut Tantra." Brihaspati Jee again said - "Indra, In earlier times, a Braahman named Helee lived in Pampaapur. He knew 64 Kalaa and was always busy in Soorya's worship. He made his living by handicraft. Once he crafted an iron statue, painted it and sold it out for 5,000 gold coins. He used this money to worship Soorya Dev in Maagh Maas. Soorya was also pleased with his worship so he used to accept his Naivedya at mid-day daily. He lived for 1,000 years and after death he became like Soorya and started shining in Maagh Maas, so Hey Indra, You also worship Soorya Dev." Hearing this Indra worshipped Soorya Dev. Soorya Dev said - "I will be born in the Bilgraam (Bilva Graam) of Bang Desh and will be famous as a great poet Jayadev. I will compile Nirukti." And he was born as Jayadev in the house of Kandukee Braahman. He served his parent since the age of five and served them up to 12 years of age. Then his parents died. After that he got Vairaagya and went to forest for worshipping. He was now 23 years old. A Satyavrat named Braahman offered his daughter Padmaavatee to Jagannaath Jee, but Jgannaath Jee said to him - "Jayadev is my form only, so you marry your daughter to him." Satyavrat did that and came back home. Padmaavatee used to serve her husband very sincerely. Jayadev wrote "Vedaang Nirukt" in his Samaadhi time. He uplifted "Paanini Shaastra". By the inspiration of Kali Yug thieves stole his all wealth and threw him in a ditch after severing his hands and feet. His wife Padmaavatee took him out of the ditch. One day king Dharmpaal came there while he was his on hunting trip, he asked him as who did this to him. Jayadev said - "Nobody has anything bad to me, only my bad Karm have done this to me." Hearing this the king brought him and his wife to his palace in a palanquin. The king took Deekshaa from him and built an inn for him. At another time the same thieves came to the king in disguise of Braahman and said to him - "We are good in Shaastra. Shaalgraam accepts the food we cook daily, you just watch it." And they showed him Chaturbhuj Vishnu taking their food. Dharmpaal was very impressed, he called Jayadev to show this to him also. So Jayadev also came in the royal court. Seeing him, those thieves said - "Oh this man used to be cook at Gaud Desh king's palace. He gave poison to him by mixing it in his food, therefore this man is wicked. He ordered him to be killed. We preached him a lot, we counseled the king also, so he canceled his order and cut only his hands and feet. Then that king became our disciple." Hearing all this lie, Prithvi burst out and the thieves fell in that slit. Kind Jayadev started weeping seeing the situation the thieves. As he wept his hands and feet became all right. Dharmpaal got very surprised to see all this. He asked Jayadev all about this. Jayadev told him the truth. The King attained Moksh by reading his "Geet Govind".
