Indraprasth Teerth Rishi asked - "Hey Soot Jee, Now you tell us the glory of Yamunaa Jee, and tell us this also that who told it to whom." Soot Jee - "Once Yudhishthir went to Saubhari Rishi and asked him - "Which Teerth is greater than Mathuraa among all the Teerth situated on the banks of Soorya's daughter Yamunaa River?" Saubhari Jee said - "Once Naarad and Parvat Muni were going by skyways. They saw Khaandav Van on their way. They both came down and sat there to take rest. After taking rest they entered Yamunaa's water to take bath. At the same time the King Shibi of Usheenar country, [MBH, Stories, 5-11-Gaalav-2 says that Shivi was the son of Usheenar, the King of Bhoj.] who came there for hunting saw them taking bath. He waited for them to come out of the River. As they came out of the water King Shibi greeted them and all of them sat down on the bank. There were thousand of golden Yagya Kund around. Shibi asked them - "Hey Muni, Whose Kund are these, and who did Yagya here? What is the specialty of this place to do Yagya, tell me this." Naarad Jee said - "Raajan, In earlier times, when Hiranyakashyap got the kingdom of three Lok after winning Devtaa, he got very proud. His son Prahlaad was a great devotee of Vishnu, but that sinner was very jealous with him, so to punish him to be jealous with His Bhakt, He had to assume Nrasinh form. He then killed Hiranyakashyap and handed over Swarg to Indra. Happy with this he said to his Guru - "Hari has given me my kingdom back, so I want to worship Him by Yagya. Tell me the place and Braahman to perform this Yagya.' Brihaspati Jee said - "Your Khaandav Van is very holy and beautiful place, there flows Yamunaa River also, so you may do your Yagya at the same place." Thus Indra did Yagya here. Pleased with his Yagya, Vishnu, Brahmaa and Mahaadev came to his Yagya. All did Pranaam on their feet and made them sit on golden thrones. Indra said - "Today I am blessed that I have got Darshan of you all." Then he prayed them and waited them to say something. Pleased with Indra's prayer, Vishnu said - "All these Muni are Gyaanee, so if they are my Bhakt, there is no wonder. You were indulged in your pleasures, still you came to me with Bhakti, there is no wonder. But now you do many Yagya for me, but without any desire. By doing this you will be able to come to my Param Dhaam. Donate Prasth (piles) of many gems in each Yagya, then this place will be famous with this name only. Mahaadev Jee, You establish Kaashee and Shiv Kaanchee and live here with Paarvatee Jee. Brihaspati Jee, You establish Nigamodwodhak Teerth. By taking bath there one can remember his previous life and Gyaan about Paramaatmaa. I also establish here Dwaarakaa Puree, Ayodhyaa Puree, Madhu Van (Mathuraa), Badarika Aashram, Haridwaar and Pushkar and will always live here." Story of Shiv Sharmaa Naarad Jee said - "Thus this place has become a great Teerth since then. These are the same Kund which Indra used for his Yagya purpose. He satisfied Bhagavaan then went to his Lok. He ruled there for a long time, and when his Punya have finished, he was born in Hastinaapur. There lived a Braahman named Shiv Sharmaa. He was very learned in Ved and Vedaang. His wife's name was Gunavatee. Indra was born to them. At his birth Shiv Sharmaa asked Pandit about him. They said - "Your this boy will be a great Bhakt of Vishnu and uplift your family." So Shiv Sharmaa named him Vishnu Sharmaa. He called a good Braahman an asked him to do his Jaatkarm Sanskaar. When he was 7 years old he did his Upanayan Sanskaar and taught Ved up to 12 years. After that he married him Vishnu Sharmaa had one son from his wife and then thought about Teerth. So he went to his father and asked his permission to go to Teerth - "I have returned all my debts and now I wish to worship Vishnu." Shiv Sharmaa said - "My time also has come to leave this world, so let both of us go to forest. Your younger brother will take care of the family." Both came out of the house at midnight and came to this Indraprasth city. When Vishnu saw these Yagya Kund, he remembered his meeting with Hari. He said to his father - "Father, I was Indra in my previous life. I did these Yagya to please Bhagavaan Vishnu. I pleased Saptarshi by donating them piles of gems. They bestowed me to be born here to attain Moksh in this life. This Teerth was strengthened by establishing many Teerth here and was named Indraprasth. Muni have predicted my death here only. This is Nigamodwedh named Teerth which was established by my Guru Brihaspati Jee. Indraprasth has been established between Sapt Teerth and Nigamodwedh Teerth. Its extension in 1 Yojan from East to West and 4 Yojan on the southern banks of Yamunaa. Maharshi have told its borders this much only. Previous Life of Shiv Sharmaa Naarad Jee said - "Raajan, Hearing this Shiv Sharmaa had a doubt on this and asked his son- "How do I believe you that you were Indra in your previous life, and only you did these Yagya? How do you get this knowledge of your earlier life?" Vishnu Sharmaa said - "Father, Rishi have blessed me with the memories of my previous life. This is the glory of this Teerth. You take bath in this Nigamodwedh Teerth, you will also remember your previous life." Hearing this Shiv Sharmaa also took bath in that Teerth with the desire to know about his previous life remembering Vishnu, holy rivers and Puree. After that he did Sandhyaa and Tarpan and after that he worshipped Soorya Dev. Then he said to his able son Vishnu Sharmaa - "Vishnu, I am also remembering my previous life. I tell you about it. In my previous life, I was a son of a rich Vaishya. My father's name was Sharabh and he lived in Kaanyakubj country. He earned lots of money but he was always worried thinking that that wealth was useless without a son. One day Rishi Deval Jee came to his house. He welcomed him, worshipped him and made him seated on a comfortable Aasan. He said - "Hey Muni, You wander on Earth to make Grihasth like me happy. Still tell me the reason of your coming." Deval Jee asked him - "Vaishya, You have collected lots of wealth and you do your daily duties with that wealth, then why is your body so lean? If there is any secret of this tell me." Vaishya said - "What is that which is hidden from you. By your grace I have all pleasures but I have no son. Tell me the way so that I can have a son, because there is nothing impossible for Mahaatmaa like you." Deval Jee closed his eyes, found the reason of no having son so far, said to him reminding him his previous life - "It is some time ago that your wife wished for, I tell you about that wish. She prayed Paarvatee Jee, "If I become pregnant then I will feed you 6-Ras food." After this prayer, she became pregnant the same month, so she came to you and said - "I wish to worship Paarvatee Jee, because by her grace only my wish is fulfilled." You became very happy to hear this and you gave her all the materials she needed for worship. Your wife called her friends, handed over that materials and said - "You can take this material to the temple and worship her properly. In our family a pregnant woman doesn't out of the house, that is why I cannot go." Those friends went to the temple. They said to Gauree - "Sharabh's wife has become pregnant by your grace, so she has asked us to worship you, because in her family a pregnant woman doesn't go out of the house that is why she could not come herself. She has sent all this material through us. Be pleased and accept this worship." After saying this they worshipped Gauree but they did not get any reply from her. They came back and said to your wife - "Paarvatee Jee is not happy with your worship." Hear this your wife got very sad and thought, "Since I could not go myself to worship her, only this seems my fault; otherwise I can't make out any other reason of being unhappy from me. Whatever happened has happened but after the delivery of the child, I myself will go to worship her. I greet her, please bless me." Vaishya asked - "When according to her promise my wife worshipped Gauree Jee, then what was the reason of being her unhappiness? Tell me this." Deval Jee said - "Listen to its reason. When your wife's friends had come back after worshipping Gauree, then Vijayaa asked Paarvatee Jee just for curiosity sake - "Lalitaa's friends worshipped you with so much Shraddhaa, then why didn't you become pleased?" Paarvatee Jee said - "I know that Vaishya's wife was unable to come out of the house and she sent her friends, but Devee like me cannot accept worship from others. If her husband had come, then also it was all right, her worship could not be broken; or alternatively she could ask any Braahman to worship me; but neither she herself worshipped me, nor asked her husband to worship me, nor she asked any Braahman to worship me, therefore she will not have a child. Now if both husband and wife worship me together, then only they can have a son." So Hey Vaishya, This is the reason that you don't have a son. As in earlier times, Vashishth Jee suggested the worship of Nandinee to get a son, in the same way you also worship Paarvatee Jee along with your wife. She will surely give you a son." Story Contd...
