Shraavan Maas is
the 5th month of Hindu Lunar calendar year. It is considered a very holy
month. Many holy activities are performed in this month.
(1) Many people eat only once during this whole month.
(2) Unmarried girls, women, even men keep fast on all the Mondays during
this month and worship Shiv Jee.
(3) Its main festivals are Naag Panchamee (on Krishn Panchamee),
Hariyaalee Teej (Shukla Teej celebrated by married women and newly-wed
girls) and Rakshaa Bandhan (Shraavanee).
(4) Many people take dip in River Gangaa or in some other holy river also
for as many days as they can.
This month is devoted to "Shraavan Bhakti" and stories
are most enchanting and captivating to listen. Therefore, during this month, there
is a tradition of reading special stories every day. Below are given a list of stories
which can be told to the household, friends, students during this month. Telling or
listening to at least one story every day during this month, is said to bring a lot
of Punya credit. The credit is multiplied when the wisdom in these stories is passed
on to the new generation.
