Shiv Sookt |
Shiv Sookt See also Sookt Shiv Sankalp Sookt is a hymn (Sookt) of six verses that comes to us from the Shukla Yajur Ved (Ch 34, Sh 1-6), but originally found in the Rig Ved. It is called Shiv Sankalp Sookt because each of the verses ends with "Tanme Manah Shiv Sankalpam Astu", meaning, "On that - the auspicious will of the Divine (Shiv Sankalp) - may my mind dwell". You may read this at Shukla Yajur Ved, 34/1-6 (Madhyaandin Sanhitaa). It is a very gentle and profound prayer, that is said to calm the mind, and upon repeated chanting, allows one to seek the Divinity within. The profoundity of the hallowed verses has earned the honor of being called Upanishad.
