Hath Yog

Forcing the mind to withdraw from worldly objects, breathing and exercising system, system recommending irrational body torture is called Hath Yog. Hath Yog was invented to provide a form of physical purification and training that would prepare aspirants for the higher training that is called Raaj Yog. Hath Yog is mostly Yog that prepares the body for the spiritual path via physical and breathing exercises, and asceticism. It prepares and conditions the body so that the mind can practice meditation more or less without obstacles.

The main component of Hath Yog is Yog postures, or, in Sanskrit, Aasan. In our times, when we speak about Yog, we usually mean physical Yog exercises or Aasan. The word Aasan means comfortable, stable pose. The Yogee have discovered that certain positions of the body can give human beings qualities that they do not have or that are in deficit. Each of these Aasan has specific physical and mental benefits. In total there are 84 Aasan, some of them are given here.
