According to Bhaagvat Puraan, 6/3 Aaditya is the son of Kashyap and his wife Aditi. According to Bhaagvat Puraan, 12/5 Soorya is a Vibhooti of Bhagavaan and appears in 12 forms - one each for each month, that is why they are called 12 Aaditya. They are (1) Dhaataa in Chaitra Maas, (2) Aryamaa Soorya in Vaishaakh Maas, (3) Mitra Soorya in Jyeshth Maas, (4) Varun Soorya Aashaadh Maas, (5) Indra Soorya, in Shraavan Maas, (6) Vivaswaan Soorya in Bhaadrapad Maas, (7) Twashtaa Soorya in Aashwin Maas, (8) Vishnu Soorya Kaarttik Maas, (9) Anshu Soorya in Agahan Maas (10) Bhag Soorya in Paush Maas, (11) Pooshaa Soorya in Maagh Maas, and (12) Parjanya Soorya Phaalgun Maas. According to Padm Puraan, 1/13 (p 49-50), there are 12 Aaditya - (1) Ansh, (2) Aryamaa, (3) Bhag, (4) Dhaataa, (5) Savitaa, (6) Varun, (7) Indra, (8) Vivaswaan, (9) Pooshaa, (10) Twashtaa, (11) Parjanya, and (12) Mitra. According to Vishnu Puraan (Ch 15) also there are 12 Aaditya - (1) Ansh, (2) Aaryaman, (3) Bhag, (4) Dhooti, (5) Pooshaa, (6) Sakra, (7) Savitra, (8) Twashtaa, (9) Varun, (10) Vishnu, (11) Vivaswat, (12) Mitra, Braahman also name them 12, corresponding to the 12 months - (1) Ansh, (2) Aaryaman, (3) Bhag, (4) Daksh, (5) Dhaatra, (6) Indra, (7) Mitra, (8) Ravi, (9) Savitra, (10) Soorya, (11) Varun, (12) Yam, (13) Saha According to Rig Ved, and Aangiras (p 61), there are 8 Divinities headed by Varun and followed by Mitra - (1) Varun , (2) Mitra , (3) Aaryaman , (4) Bhag , (5) Daksh, (6) Ansh, (7) Soorya, and (8) Indra. Aaditya Hridayam Aaditya Hridayam is a powerful Vaidik hymn addressed to Soorya Dev. Its verses are found in 107th chapter of Yuddh Kaand of Vaalmeeki Raamaayan. When Raam got exhausted fighting with Raavan, Sage Agastya approached Raam and taught Him the advantage of worshipping Soorya Dev for strength and defeating enemies. After reading this Stotra Raam became capable of defeating His enemies easily. Thus the Aaditya Hridayam is a prayer to the Sun god for getting victory in the war. It is also chanted for getting rid of sickness and becoming free from loans. It starts with "Tato Yuddh parishraantam... .." There are 33 stanzas. If one can read just stanzas then one can get its rhythm in maximum 5 minutes.
