1-General Questions-5
Does MBH advocate Polyandry and polygamy?
The MBH very comfortably refers to polyandry
(many husbands for one woman) as well as polygamy (many wives for one
man). Draupadee had five husbands and all Paandav brothers too had other
wives. Even Dhritraashtra and Duryodhan, Vasudev (10 wives) also had more
than one wife.
People can say it "yes", but I don't think that MBH "advocates"
for it; because first, they were kings; second, I don't think it was a common
practice in those days.
Paandav had other wives than Draupadee.
What are their details?
Yudhishthir married Devikaa, the daughter of
Govasan of the Shaibyaa tribe and begat upon her a son called Yaudheya.
Bheem married Hidimbaa and Valandharaa, the daughter of the King of
Kaashee and begat upon them the sons named Ghatotkach and Sarvag
respectively.
Nakul married Karenumatee, the princess of Chedi, and begat upon her a
son named Niramitra.
Sahadev obtained Vijayaa, the daughter of Dyutimat, the king of Madra
and begat upon her a son named Suhotra.
Arjun had married Uloopee, Chitraangadaa and Subhadraa. Abhimanyu was
the son born to Subhadra. All these wives lived with their sons in the
house of their fathers.
Iravaan and Babhruvaahan (Arjun's sons)
Iravaan was Uloopee's son and Babhruvaahan
was Chitraangadaa's son. But only Iraavaan seems to have participated in MBH
war.
Iravaan was killed by Alambooshaa Raakshas on the 8th day of MBH war.
Babhruvaahan fought with his father Arjun when he went with Yudhishthir's
Ashwamedh Yagya's horse. He killed his father then Uloopee revived him.
Strength in Various Warriors
Bheem, Jaraasandh, Dwivid, Pradyumn, Paurav and
Keechak had 10,000 elephants strength. Even Dhritraashtra had the strength of
10,000 elephants. [G-1-Beginning/5]
Keechak could be defeated by only four people - Balaraam, Bheem, Bheeshm, Shalya
Nakul had only four people equal to him - Ashwatthaamaa, Dhrishtketu (son of
Shishupaal), Rukmee (Rukminee's brother), and Pradyumn (Krishn's son).
