Shameek |
Shameek From Bhaagvat Puraan, 1/6 This Kathaa comes in Bhaagvat Puraan. Once Pareekshit, (Abhimanyu's son and Arjun's grandson), came at Shameek Muni's Aashram while out for hunting spree. He was very hungry and thirsty and was expecting hospitality from the Rishi. But as he arrived there, Rishi was in the state of Samaadhi so he did not know that somebody was there to be attended. Pareekshit was so hungry and thirsty that when he did not get proper attention, he got irritated and put a dead snake around the Rishi's neck in anger and went away from there. Shameek Muni's son Shringee was also a very powerful Rishi. At that time he was playing with his friends, when he heard that Raajaa has put the dead snake around his father's neck, he became very angry and gave him Shaap that "On the seventh day from today Raajaa will die from the bite of Takshak Naag." When Shameek Muni came to know about his Shaap, he became very sad about all this. He said to his son - "You should not have done this to Raajaa. He takes care of all people of his kingdom, he should not be treated like this." As Raajaa came to know about this, he consulted his ministers, Rishi etc about what he should do then. What could he do during those seven days so that he could be emancipated. Great Muni suggested him to hear Bhaagvat Kathaa story during those seven days. He heard Bhaagvat Puraan from Shuk Dev Jee and left his body before Takshak bit him.
