Muhoort-1

Raahu Kaal etc;
Yog
Muhoort or "Shubh Ghadee" is a
very short auspicious time period to do certain auspicious work, for example if somebody
asks a Pandit to tell him the Muhoort for the marriage of his daughter, the Pandit might
say - "It is between 10.30 pm and 1.20 am." This means that the marriage should
be performed between this time period. Since the Pandit has told this time after a careful
examination of time, it is auspicious Muhoort. There may be several auspicious time for
the same work. Normally Muhoort word is used for the auspicious time, but if sometimes any
work is not done properly, people comment - "Muhoort was not good, that is why your
work is not completed properly."
A Muhoort is equal to 48
minutes, and one Dand being equal to 24 minutes. A Muhoort, therefore
implies not 48 minutes exactly, but some time.
What is the significance of
Vaar Belaa, Kaal Belaa, and kaal Raatri Muhoort and their basis?
What is their scriptural basis and mode of calculation?
What is the degree of maleficity of Vaar Belaa, Kaal Belaa and Kaal Raatri
as compared to important malefic Muhoort like Yam Gantak, Gulikaa, Ardhayam
etc as mentioned in Muhoort Chintaamani. Because I have seen that people
avoid Vaar Belaa and Kaal Belaa.
-------------------------------------------------
In fact, in Muhoort Shaastra, the duration of the day and night is divided
in number of ways for different elective purposes like:
1. 15 Muhoort of 2 Ghatikaa each and given specific names to them
2. 4 Yaam (Prahar) of 7 Ghatikaa 30 Pal each
2. 8 Ardh Yaam of 3 Ghatikaa 45 Pal each
Out of 8 Ardh Yaam, 5 are
assigned to 5 day Lords Sun, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn and known
as 'Kaal', 'Mrityu', 'Ardh Prahar', 'Yam Ghantakaa' and 'Gulik'.The method
of calculation of these portions during day and night is well known. These
are also called "Kaal Belaa" assigned to above mentioned planets
and considered as inauspicious. Gulik Belaa assigned to Saturn is considered
most inauspicious.
In Gulik Belaa, two specific
points namely Gulikaa and Mandee are considered most malefic.
Verse 37 of chapter 1 of Muhoort Chintamani reads as under:
"Kulikah Kaal Belaa cha Yam Ghantasya Kantakah,
Varadwaaghane Kraman Mande Budhe Jeeve Kuje Chhanah"
From this verse it is clear
that Muhoort of two Ghatee is specially called 'Kulikaa' is assigned to
Saturn and is called 'Mandee'.
This Muhoort always starts in Gulikaa Kaal Belaa.
The starting point of "Kulikaa" Muhoort is called 'Mandee Point'
The word "Kulikaa' indicates Kul (family) of a person, thus used in
rectification of birth time.
As Gulikaa Bela is considered most Malefic, BPHS has called the commencing
point of this Belaa as 'Gulikaa Point' This is also followed by "Sarvarth
Chintamani' and "Jatak Parijat".
On the other hand, Prashn Marg, Phal Deepika term or call "Mandee" as "Gulikaa".
Uttar Kalamrit accepts the 'Mandee" as defined in Muhoort Chintamani but
this classics calls the ending point of 'Gulikaa Belaa" as Gulikaa point.
Mandee of Chamatkar Chintamani is same as Gulikaa of Prashna Marg and Phal Deepika.
This point is adopted in Birth Time Rectification.
Initial or ending points of 'Gulikaa Belaa" are not adopted for Birth Rectification.
Method of deducing 'Nishek Lagna' with the help of Mandee is given in BPHS,
Ch 4 Verses 25 to 30 (Santhanam edition) and is elaborated in detail.
In
Varg charts the term Gulikaa is important. Refer to Jaimini Updaesh Sutra, 3.3.59 -
"Swa Trinshaanshe Kaulkaanaam Phalaani Rogadayah" - "Diseases
and other evils are seen from the Lagna, Trinshaansh and Kalulaa'
In D-6 Chart each division of 5 deg. is called Kalukaa. Each Kalukaa
contains 2 'Dwaadshaansh' (D-12 chart) also called Suryaansh -representing
our parents or origin. Each Drekkan contains two 'Kalukaa'.
This proves that Mandee (the initial point of Kalukaa Muhoort' has many
uses in Muhoort as well as in Jaatak.

-------------------------------------------------
(1) Parasari Gulikaa "Gulikaa Kaal is the Yam ascribed to Saturn. (let us
call it G1)
(2) Parasari Gulikaa "Kshenikaa Graha is the starting point of Saturn's
Yam. (let us call it G2)
(3) Prashn Marg Mandee is the end point of full Muhoort within Saturn's
Yam (let us call it G3)
(4) Some say that end point of Saturn's Yam should be called as Gulikaa
Kshenikaa Graha (let us call it G4)
(5) Uttar Kalamrita speaks about G2 and G3 both
(6) Muhoorta Chintamani speaks about G1
(7) Lomash Sanhitaa is speaking about G3
As per the opinion of
Parashar, G2 should be used for birth time rectification.
As per opinion of Lomash, G3 should be used for birth time rectification.

Belaa, or Raahu Kaal, or Yam Ghantakaa or Chaughadiyaa
see also Panchaang
Information-1 and
Panchaang Information-3
In the five Eastern states, the Panchaang gives everyday day to day
inauspicious Muhoort in terms of Vaar Belaa, Kaal Belaa and Kaal Raatri
strictly. They do not use or mention about Raahu Kaal, Yam Ghantakaa
unlike south Panchaang. The calculations with these different approaches
both in Eastern and Southern Panchaang ending with different timings
usually creates confusion when compared and to think that which system is
more reliable .Same with Western India, prefer only Chaughadiyaa, not much
to do with Eastern Vaar Velaa or Southern Raahu Kaal. What should be the
standard use for common day to day inauspicious Muhoort as far scriptures
are concerned.
Abhijeet Muhoort
Muhoort has to be judged from a specific location. If Malefics at that
time are not there in 6th, 8th and 12th houses,
Abhijeet Muhoort is fine. It is only
the 8th (middle) Muhurta of daytime which is termed as Abhijeet (Kutapam;
U-Aashaadhaa) and the 8th middle Muhoort of night time is termed Brahm Muhoort
(Rohinee), as per Maadhaveeya. Note that this Abhijeet Muhoort (midday) and
Rohinee Muhoort (midnight) are Nakshatra Muhoort. The popular so called
Brahm Muhoort (early morning time - from 3 hours to sunrise up to sunrise -
i.e. approximately from 3.30 to 6.30 am) popular in Aayurved is a different
one and non-astrological; please don't confuse the same with the Mid-night
Nakshatra Muhoort used in astrology also known by the name 'Brahm (Rohinee)
Muhoort'. Anyway the point is Abhijeet Muhoort is applicable only to Midday,
and not Midnight.
The Harivansh (the Khila
Bhaag of the Mahaabhaarat) says that Krishn was born in the Abhijeet
Muhoort. The relevant verse is as follows:
Devakya janaya dwishnum Yashodaa taam tu daarikaam |
Muhoorte abhijiti praapte saardharaatre vibhooshite || 2-4-14
Muhoort for Marriage
There are only three Muhoort when marriage may be, I repeat, may be
performed, if no good Muhoort for marriage is available in near future and
parents are in hurry.
Similar is the case of Godhooli Muhoort.
These are not in replacement of proper Muhoort.
Auspicious Taaraa (Nakshatra)
Auspicious Taaraa is mostly used for many other works, like starting any
Saadhanaa, study, business etc. Check your birth Nakshatra, count from it to the
desired day Nakshatra and whatever number comes, divide it by 9. If
remainder is 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 0, it is auspicious.

When one should start something so that he can get its benefits most. As
it is known that Planets are 7 and Nakshatra are 27, thus every Planet has
its control over 3 Nakshatra.
Soorya ------------ Krittikaa, U-Phaalgunee, U-Aashaadhaa
Chandra ----------- Rohinee, Hast, Shravan
Mangal ----------- Mrigshiraa, Chitraa, Dhanishthaa
Budh ------------- Aashleshaaa, Jyeshthaa, Revatee
Brihaspati ------- Punarvasu, Vishaakhaa P-Bhaadrapad
Shukra ---------- Bharanee, P-Phaalgunee, P-Aashaadhaa
Shani ------------ Pushya, Anuraadhaa, U-Bhaadrapad
Raahu ----------- Aardraa, Swaati, Shatabhishaa
Ketu ------------ Ashwinee, Maghaa, Mool
At the time of birth, the Moon
is in whichever Sign, that is called Moon Sign or Chandra Raashhi
At the time of birth, the Moon is in whichever Nakshatra, that is our
Birth Nakshatra.
At the time of birth, the Sun is in whichever Sign, that is our Sun Sign
or Soorya Raashi.
Now you start counting from
your Birth Nakshatra
---
(1) Janm ----------- in which Nakshatra you are born
(2) Sampat -------- 2nd Nakshatra from Janm Nakshatra
(3) Vipat ---------- 3rd Nakshatra from Janm Nakshatra
(4) Kshem --------- 4th Nakshatra
from Janm Nakshatra
(5) Pratyaari ------ 5th Nakshatra
from Janm Nakshatra
(6) Saadhanaa ----- 6th Nakshatra
from Janm Nakshatra
(7) Nidhan -------- 7th Nakshatra
from Janm Nakshatra
(8) Mitra --------- 8th Nakshatra
from Janm Nakshatra
(9) Param Mitra -- 9th Nakshatra from Janm Nakshatra
Hindu Jyotish fully depends
on Nakshatra, and Nakshatra are all pre-set, they are --
(1) Ashwinee, (2) Bharanee, (3) krittikaa, (4) Rohinee, (5) Mrigshiraa,
(6) Aardraa, (7) Punarvasu, (8) Pushya, (9) Ashleshaa
(1) Maghaa, (P-Phaalgunee, (3) U-Phaalgunee, (4) Hast, (5) Chitraa, (6)
Swaati, (7) Vishaakhaa, (8) Anuraadhaa, (9) Jyeshthaa
(1) Mool, (2) P-Aashaadhaa, (3) U-Aashaadha, (4) Shravan, (5) Dhanishthaa,
(6) Shatabhishaa, (7) P-Bhaadrapad, (8) U-Bhaadrapad, (9) Revatee
These divisions are made here
for the convenience.
For example, if at the time of your birth, your Moon is in Kumbh Raashi,
and in Shatabhishaa Nakshatra, then
2nd Nakshatra is P-Bhaadrapad
3rd is U-Bhaadrapad
4th is Revatee
5th is Ashwinee
6th is Bharanee,
7th is Krittikaa
8th is Rohinee
9th is Mrigshiraa
Now whichever Planet will be in 1-Janm,
2-Sampati, 4-Kshem, 6-Saadhanaa,
and 8-Mitra Nakshatra, and if he has been powerful, then he will give
powerful results. The Planet situated in the 9th Nakshatra will give very
very auspicious results. 3, 5, 7 Nakshatra are not good Nakshatra. The 9th
one is the most auspicious and the 7th one is the most inauspicious
Nakshatra is.
Use this principle, and start
your work on the most auspicious day. If you want buy a new vehicle,
entering new house, start a new trade or business, apply for a job, apply
for a loan etc, use this information. Even if any Planet is in your 8th
House, and if he is in your 9th Param Mitra Nakshatra, he will give you
good results; and if Lagnesh (Lord of Ascendant) is in 3rd, 5th or 7th
Nakshatra, then he becomes your enemy.
