Astrology in Scriptures Astrology in Raamaayan; Muhoort in Raamaayan Astrology in Mahaabhaarat (2) MBH (6.3.17) mentions Brahm Raashi. It had Shravan and Abhijit Nakshatra. After the MBH times the Abhijit Nakshatra was dropped and the 12 Raashi were reconstituted with 27 equally spaced Nakshatra in place of earlier unequally spaced 28 Nakshatra. That shows that the MBH did use Raashi and that too before the presently used system came into vogue. One should not get confused by the use of the Abhijit Muhoort also in the MBH (1.123.36).
(3) In Van Parv, 188.88, there is a mention of Nakshatra also. Astrology in Others
(2) Ved also mentions the Raashi but western scholars, who want straight meanings cannot see these. Anyway I am giving a few of the references below :
Vrishabh Raashi (Rig Ved, 6.47.5; 8.93.1), (3) Some Puraan also mention the Raashi. The Vaaman Puraan particularly gives the specific Nakshatra and Nakshatra Pad too in the different Raashi. The Puraan have to follow the five criteria called Panch Lakshan and according to one of them the historical part has to be kept updated. That is why some Puraan, particularly those emphasizing the history, kept themselves up to date up to the Gupta period. Some western scholars, unaware of the Panch Lakshan, get confused by seeing events up to the time of Gupta period in these Puraan.
