Ken Upanishad-2 |
Khand-3 Once a battle between the Devtaa and the Daitya, God obtained victory for the Devtaa. This led Devtaa to become swollen headed and they thought in their arrogance theirs alone was the glory. God saw their conceit, so he tried to teach them a lesson. He made Himself appear amidst them, but they did not understand Him and wondered who this spirit was? The
Devtaa spoke to Agni, the Fire god - "O all knowing, Please find out for
us who this spirit is?" So Agni Dev hastened to the spirit. The
Devtaa then said to Vaayu Dev - "O Vaayu Dev, Go and find out who that
adorable spirit is?" Now
the Devtaa asked their King Indra to find out who that adorable spirit
was. Indra promised to find out and hastened to reach where the God was,
but the spirit was gone by then, and in His place stood Umaa, the goddess
of infinite grace and radiance. Thus Agni, Vaayu and Indra Dev excelled the other Devtaa because they were the first to feel the God and leave their arrogance. Indra excelled other Devtaa, because he was the first among them to understand God, the Supreme being.
