Sarg 106-Raam-Raavan Fight Continues

Raam saw Raavan's chariot coming fast towards battlefield, so He said to Maatali - "Maatali, Take my chariot in front of Raavan so that I can kill him. You be fearless." Maatali drove the chariot keeping it to the left of Raavan's chariot. The dust flew from Raam's chariot made Raavan scared.

Raam showered arrows on Raavan and Raavan also used his weapons. Omens were not good. They were indicating Raam's victory over Raavan. Raavan saw jackals crying, he couldn't see properly because of the unusual blow of wind, darkness fell all around. On the other side Raam saw good omens, so He became definite that he would kill Raavan.

Sarg 107-Raavan is Hard to Kill

A fierce fight took place between Raam and Raavan. All soldiers stopped fighting to see their fight. Raam and Raavan also recognized their omens but started fighting with the same enthusiasm. Raam cut Raavan's flag, Raavan showered arrows on Raam. He shot arrows at horses also but Raam's horses did not feel much. Raavan shot arrows at Maatali also but he also did not feel much.

Raam aimed a snake-like arrow at Raavan's head and shot it. It cut Raavan's head but a new head replaced the old one before it fell down on the ground. Raam cut his head several times but all his heads got replaced. Now Raam thought - "Whatever arrows I thought were infallible, all of them seem to be useless." Thinking thus Raam started shooting His arrows at Raavan's chest. Fight continued for quite some time. Seeing this Indra's Saarathee Maatali said to Raam.

Sarg 108-Raam Kills Raavan

[Maatali said to Raam] "Hey Raam, Now you leave these arrows and use Brahmaastra, because whatever time Devtaa told it has come now." Hearing Maatali, Raam remembered the weapon given by Agastya Muni. That arrow was infallible in the fight and Brahmaa created it for Indra to win Tri-Lok. This weapon was as heavy as a mountain and its edge had Vaayu, Agni and Soorya on it. It was as terrifying as Yam Raaj. When Raam picked it up, Prithvi shook, all creatures were scared. Raam hit it into the chest of Raavan. His chest shattered in pieces and he died. The arrow entered Prithvi.

Seeing Raavan killed, Raakshas ran away and started crying. Vaanar army chased Raakshas away. Devtaa showered flowers on Raam. All directions were lighted. Sugreev, Angad, Vibheeshan all got satisfied. Lakshman worshipped Raam, Angad, Sugreev, and Vibheeshan.

Sarg 109-Raam Consoles Vibheeshan

Seeing his brother Raavan dead in the battle ground, Vibheeshan said doing Vilaap - "Why are you sleeping here on the ground? You have a bed for you. The same thing happened what I said to you, but you never paid any attention to it, because you were under the control of Kaam. I tried to explain Indrajeet, Prahast etc also but they also didn't listen to me. Your courage failed. Raam won."

Hearing all this Raam said - "Hey Dharm knower, Raavan has demonstrated his extraordinary bravery in the war. He fought with great courage till he lived. This was his Kshatriya Dharm. So one should not cry for such brave people. Besides who die during the progress of their life, one should not cry for them too. Hey Vibheeshan, Who was a terror even for Indra and Tri-Lok, if such person died because of the destiny, one should not worry about him also. You know this very well that Kshatriya consider the same death admirable which is in the battlefield while fighting. Therefore Hey Lankesh, Do not weep any more and think bout your future duties."

Vibheeshan said - "Who was a terror even to Indra, today he is killed by you. Who used to donate to Braahman, please his friends, killer of his enemy and a great learned Pandit of Ved, what are my duties on his death? Whatever you will say, I will do so." Raam said - "Hey Lankesh, Perform his last rites. Vibheeshan, Our purpose is served, after the death our enmity is also over, so now your brother is my brother."
