Sarg 31-Akampan's Suggestion and Raavan Goes to Maareech

[Now there remained only one Raakshas - Akampan who was seeing all this in secret, he was the spy of Lankaa]. Seeing all this destruction, Akampan went to Lankaa and spoke to Raavan - "Hey Raajan, Many Raakshas living in Janasthaan got killed along with Khar. I could escape any how." [see Note on Lankaa here]

Raavan said angrily - "Who has spoiled my Janasthaan desiring for death. Akampan, Even Vishnu, Kuber, Indra, Yam etc cannot stand against me, because Kaal is in my control. I can burn even Agni, I can stop even Vaayu. I can even burn Sun. Tell me his name."

Akampan besought clemency and then said - "Who has killed those Raakshas, He is the son of Dasharath and His name is Raam. He is of Shyaam (dark) complexion. His voice's sound is like drum's sound. He has a brother named Lakshman who is also as brave and mighty as Raam. Raam has killed them all."

Raavan said - "Did Indra etc Devtaa come with Him?" Akampan again described Raam's bravery - "He is a very good archer. He is gracious. He has a good knowledge of divine missiles and weapons. He had no Devtaa or Mahaatmaa with Him. Don't even think about it. He alone has destroyed that place. He shoots arrows with gold wings and He killed Raakshas from the same arrows. Wherever Raakshas went they saw Raam there. The same Raam has destroyed your Janasthaan."

Raavan said - "I will go to kill them myself." Akampan again said - "Listen more to His bravery. If He comes in anger then nobody can win Him. He can let flow, as well as stop the flow of a river with His arrows. He has the power to destroy sky along with all Nakshatra. He can raise the whole Prithvi, if it sinks. He is omnipotent, therefore you, even along with all your Raakshas, cannot win Him as many sinners cannot win one Swarg.

But Hey Raajan, I tell you another way of killing Him. His wife Seetaa is very beautiful and very qualitative. She is a gem-like lady. There is no other woman like Seetaa in this or any other Lok - no Apsaraa, no Gandharv, no Pannag, no goddess. So if you can bring Her cheating Raam somehow, then Raam cannot live without Her."

Raavan liked this idea and suggestion of Akampan. He said to Akampan - "Tomorrow, just in the morning, I will go to that forest and abduct Seetaa to Lankaa." After this Raavan rode on a chariot driven by donkeys. His chariot was glittering like gold all directions, and went to the Aashram of Maareech by the starry way like a Moon in the sky.

Maareech entertained his guest with exceptional things and worshipped him. He asked - "Hey Raajan, Is everybody all right in your kingdom? Because coming here in such a hurry creates doubt in my mind, therefore first tell me the reason of your coming here." Skilled in speaking, Raavan said to him - "Raam has killed my army chief of the border of my kingdom - Jansthaan, that is why I want to abduct His wife Seetaa. Please help me."

Maareech said - "Whoever has advised you to abduct Seetaa, he is your enemy or the friend? He doesn't want your progress. Tell me who has advised you to abduct Seetaa? Who wants to kill all the Raakshas? He wants you to extract poisonous teeth of a snake. Hey Raajan, Leave alone fighting with that Raam, nobody can even look at Him. It is not good to wake up a sleeping lion. He will kill everybody like deer. Therefore you go back to Lankaa happily and enjoy with your wives. Let Raam live happily with Seetaa in forest." Maareech explained Raavan thus and Raavan came back to Lankaa.
