Raam was the seventh incarnation of Vishnu. He was born to Dasharath and Kaushalyaa was Dasharath's eldest son of the four. Dasharath was the King of Ayodhyaa. He had three queens - Kaushalyaa, Sumitraa and Kaikeyee. Kaushalyaa was the eldest and Kaikeyee was the youngest queen. He had no child for long time. He was worried as who will take care of his kingdom after he died, so one day he went to his Purohit Vashishth Jee and xpressed his worry. Vashishth Jee said - "Do not worry, You invite Rishyashring Muni and do the Putreshti Yagya, you will surely have children." The King invited Rishyashring Muni, he did Putreshti Yagya.

At the end of the Yagya a Divine man appeared from the Havan Kund carrying a pot. He gave that pot to Dasharath with instructions to distribute its contents to his three queens. The King did so as he said to him. Whn the time came Kaushalyaa gave birth to Raam, Kaikeyee gave birth to Bharat and Sumitraa gave birth to a twins - Lakshman and Shatrughn. Among these four Raam and Bharat looked similar and Lakshman and Shatrughn looked similar. Raam and Bharat were of a bit dark complexion and Lakshman and Shatrughn were of fair complexion. Lakshman loved Raam very much while Shatrughn loved Bharat very much.

All princes were growing, and the King was very happy seeing them growing. When Raam was of 15 years of age, one day Vishwaamtra Jee came to Dasharath. Dasharath welcomed him and asked him what he could do for him. Vishwaamitra Jee said - "We are doing some Yagya and Asur always disturb us. I have come here to take your two sons, Raam and Lakshman, so that they can protect my Yagya and we can finish our Yagya without any disturbance." Dasharath loved Raam very much. He did not want to be separated from Raam even for a minute, but Vishwamitra Jee was adamant to take his both sons to his Aashram. At last Dasharath had to send them with him.

Raam Kills Taadakaa and Subaahu
On the way, as they came near Vishwaamitra's Aashram, Taadakaa appeared, Raam killed her with one arrow only. Seeing this Vishwaamtra gave him many weapons and knowledge. When they came in the Aashram, Raam asked Vishwaamitra to do his Yagya while both boys were on vigil. Then came Subaahu, Raam killed Subaahu also. And Lastly came Maareech, Raam just shot a blunt arrow at him and threw him very far in the sea.Thus Raam and Lakshman protected Vishwaamitra's Yagya.

Meanwhile Vishwaamitra Jee received an invitation from Mithilaa's King Janak for his daughter Seetaa's Swayamvar. He took Raam and Lakshman also and set off to attend that along with other Muni. On the way to Mithilaa Raam saw a single stone lying in the middle of a very lonely place without any vegetation. He asked Vishwaamitra Jee its reason. Vishwaamitra Jee asked Him to touch that stone with His foot. As He did that, that stone changed into a beautiful woman. She was Ahalyaa. She prayed Raam and went to her husband thanking Him.

Now they came to Mithilaa. King Janak had a condition for marrying Seetaa. He had an old bow of Shiv. He put the condition that whoever will break that bow, Janak will marry Seetaa to him. Many mighty kings came to attend Her Swayamvar. Raavan was also there. He just did Pranaam to the bow and came back to his seat. Many other kings also tried to break that bow but did not succeed. Janak got very sad to see that there was nobody in that huge gathering who could break the bow. He said - "Is there no mighty person who can break this bow on this Prithvi?" Hearing this Lakshman got very angry and said some harsh words that when Soorya Vanshee princes are present in a court, nobody has right to say this. If he is permitted, he could carry this Brahmaand around.

Hearing this Vishwaamitra Jee asked Raam to get up and proceed to break the bow. Raam got up and broke the bow. It made a great noise while breaking. The then people heard some noise outside also and they saw Parashuraam Jee coming in. Everybody got quiet to see him as everybody was aware of his anger. Seeing him Janak and Vishwaamitra etc greeted him. Janak called Seetaa and asked her to touch his feet. He blessed all and asked - "What is going on here?" Janak said - "This is my daughter's Swayamvar." Then he cast a look around and saw the broken bow. He asked - "Who has broken this bow?" Raam said - "He should be only one of your servants."

Hearing this Parashuraam Jee got very angry and a series of hot arguments took place between him and Lakshman. At last Raam said - "Tell us, what we can do for you to please you?" Parashuraam Jee said - "I can believe you if you can fight with me with my bow." Raam said "All right". As Parashuraam Jee gave his bow to Raam, it went to Him itself. Seeing this Parashuraam got very surprised. He prayed Raam and Lakshman and went away. Everybody got relieved.

Janak sent his messengers to Ayodhyaa to invite for Raam's marriage to Seetaa. Dasharath got very happy to hear this news and came to Mithilaa. There all the four princes were married - Raam to Seetaa, Bharat to Maandavee, Lakshman to Urmilaa and Shatrughn to Shrutkeerti. After the marriage they all went back to Ayodhyaa.
