23-Earthquakes

Earthquake, also known as a quake, tremor or temblor, is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking the Earth and sometimes displacement of the ground. When the epicenter of a large earthquake is located offshore, the seabed may be displaced sufficiently to cause a tsunami. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides, and occasionally volcanic activity.

Sometimes earthquakes make new islands also. A new island has emerged from the ocean offshore of the city of Gwadar, Paakistaan, after a strong magnitude of 7.7 earthquake shook the country on the morning of Sept 24, 2013. The mound appears to be 20 to 40 feet (6 to 12 meters) high and 100 feet (30 meters) wide.  It rose out of the sea at a spot located about 350 feet (100 meters) from the coast.
