Who Left Whom in Favor of God
There are some people ho left even their near and dear in favor of God. This information
is based on Tulasee's work "Jaake Prya Na raam Vaidehee...". Meeraa's name is
not in this poetry. Although Meeraa was Tulasee's contemporary, but since bothe Tulasee
and meeraa's dates are not certain, maybe the information of Meeraa's leaving home has
not reached Tulasee, or maybe he had already written this poetry before Meeraa had left
her home. --
(1) Bali Left His Guru
When Vishnu incarnated as Vaaman Avataar to take Tri-Lok back from Daitya Raaj
Bali and He asked him three steps land; Bali immediately got ready to give it to
Him because of several reasons - (1) He was doing a Yagya, so he could not have
sent a beggar empty handed, (2) He was asking only 3 steps land which was not a
very big thing for him, (3) He was a great donor, so otherwise also nobody used
to go empty handed from his palace. Hearing this strange demand Bali's Guru
Shukraachaarya understood that he was not an ordinary Braahman boy, He was the
Lord of Tri-Lok, so he immediately warned Bali that he should not give anything
to that boy. But Bali had already decided so he said - "Guru Jee, If He is
Bhagvaan, then it is my good luck that Bhagvaan Himself who gives to everybody,
is standing at my door as a beggar. I cannot leave this opportunity just like
that. And if He is not Bhagvaan, he cannot harm me anything. So I cannot send
Him back empty handed." And he refused to obey his Guru. Guru Jee still wanted
to do his good so he sat in the spout of the Sankalp pot and stopped the water.
Then Bhagvaan Himself inserted a Kush grass blade to clear the passage and it
pierced one eye of Shukraachaarya Jee. The water came out of the pot and the
Sankalp was completed.
(2) Bharat left his mother
When King Dasharath wanted to crown Raam King of Ayodhyaa, Dasharath's youngest
queen Kaikeyee suddenly created an obstacle in the ceremony by asking her two
old booms which Dasharath promised to give to her. On asking what did she want,
she asked throne to Bharat and exile to Raam for 14 years. Dasharath tried his
best to convince her that Raam did not want kingdom, so there was no problem in
giving the kingdom to Bharat, although Bharat will also not prefer to be the
King in the presence of Raam, but why did she want to send Raam in exile.
Without Raam he would die, but Kaikeyee did not listen to this. Dasharath had to
send Raam to forest. After Raam left for forest Dasharath died. At that time
Bharat and Shatrughn were not in Ayodhyaa so they were called immediately. When
Bharat came to Ayodhyaa and came to know that all that happened because of his
mother, he did not speak to his mother for all the 14 years till Raam came back.
(3) Vibheeshan left his
brother
Raavan was a great Asur but at the same time he wanted his Mukti (salvation)
also. He has known that he had to die by the hands of Bhagvaan, so he was
waiting for Bhagvaan to incarnate and break a war with Him. As soon as he heard
that Raam had come in Panchvatee and He had killed his three brothers who were
like himself, he understood that this was the man who was Bhagvaan. He hatched a
plan and abducted His wife Seetaa. He brought Her to Lankaa and kept Her there
in the hope that Raam will come to take Her and then he will have a chance to
have fight with Him. Both Mandodaree and Vibheeshan tried their best to convince
him that Raam was Bhagvaan and if he wanted to rule the world, he should give
back Seetaa to Raam but he knew what he was doing and why. So he did not listen
to anybody. At last Vibheeshan left him and went to Raam's camp.
(4) Prahlaad left his father
Hiranyakashyap was a very great and mighty Asur. Hearing that Vishnu had killed
his brother Hiranyaaksh, he got very angry with Him and decided to kill Him. He
did severe Tap to get powers and then started abusing Vishnu. He had four sons,
among them his youngest son Prahlaad was Vishnu Bhakt (there are only two Asur
who were Vishnu Bhakt - Prahlaad and Vibheeshan, otherwise all other Asur were
Shiv Bhakt). Seeing his son being a Vishnu Bhakt he tried to kill him many times
by many means, but because of Vishnu's grace he was saved all the time. Seeing
all this, one day he got very angry and asked his son to present his God who was
saving him all the time. Prahlaad said - "He is everywhere, He is in me, he is
in You." Hiranyakashyap asked - "Is He in this pillar also?" Prahlaad replied -
"Yes." Angrily he broke that pillar and Lo, there came out Narasinh Bhagvaan.
Both fought for some time, but later Bhagvaan killed Hiranyakashyap.
(5) Meeraa left her husband
Meeraa was the queen of a Raajpoot King of Chittod Garh, Raajasthaan. She loved
Krishn very much. She has written many poetry about Krishn and used to sing
them. The King did not like this, so he several times asked her to take care of
her husband, but Meeraa was after Krishn. Her husband also tried to kill her a
few times - by sending her some snakes, by sending poison to drink, etc, but
Meeraa did not die. At last she left the palace and went away to Mathuraa at the
age of 30.
(6) Brij women left their
husbands
When Krishn was living in Brij, He used to play flute and attracted not only
living beings even cows and calves also gathered about Him. It is said that cows
used to come to Him wherever they used to be, and Gopee also left there house
work and came to Him running. They did not care for their husbands and children.
Their husbands did not like this that their wives ran to a cowherd just on the
tune of His flute, so the Gopee left them.
