size="4">Some Strange Wishes and Boons
Many people, Raakshas etc have expressed many kind of strange wishes
to Bhagavaan, and Bhagavaan has bestowed them boons, some of well-known strange
wishes and boons are given here ---
(1) Hiranyakashyap
He asked this Var from Brahmaa Jee,
--I should not be killed by anybody created by you.
--neither I should be killed outside of my house nor inside of the house
--neither I should be killed in day time nor in night time
--neither I should be killed up in the sky, nor on Earth
--nor I should be killed by any weapon
So then how Vishnu killed him?
As you know,
He took Narasinh Avataar to fulfill the first condition - He was not created by Brahmaa
killed him on the door, to fulfill the second condition
killed him in the evening, to fulfill his third condition
killed him keeping him on his knees, to fulfill his fourth condition, and
killed him with his nails (no weapon), to fulfill his fifth condition
(2) Raavan
He asked this Var from Brahmaa Jee, "I should not be killed by any Devtaa, Gandharv, Raakshas." He left human being and
monkeys from his list as he considered them nothing in front of his might, that
is why Vishnu had to incarnate as a human being and take the help of Vaanar and
bears.
(3) Kumbhkarn
He got this boon from Brahmaa Jee. Since he was a great eater and troubled
Rishi Muni too much, Brahmaa Jee got scared of his wish, so he asked Saraswatee
Jee to help him. She immediately helped him, and he asked for a good sleep. When Raavan heard this he
requested Brahmaa Jee to modify his Var to six months of sleep and then to get
up only to eat then to sleep again.
(4) Taarakaasur
Taarak was the son of Vairaang (son of Kashyap and Diti) and Vairaangee. he was very
ambitious. he wanted to win Devtaa, but since it was not easy, so he resolved to do
Tap for Brahmaa Jee. he did it and when Brahmaa Jee got pleased, he asked or immortality.
Brahmaa Jee refused for it as it was impossible and he might ask for another Var. At
that time Shiv Jee was in Samaadhi, and none could disturb His Tap for His fury. So he
could not marry, so there was no question of his son. And even if he had the son, he
will be so small that he will not be able to harm him. So he asked that he should die
only by the hands of the son of Shiv Jee when he is only seven days old. Brahmaa Jee
said "So be it" and went away.
So then how he was killed?
Satee who immolated herself took Avataar of Umaa in Himaalaya's house. Kaam Dev
disturbed Shiv's Tap so that he could marry to Umaa. He succeeded in waking him
up from his Samaadhi, but lost his life. After a long wait Shiv dropped his
semen and Gangaa took it. When Gangaa could not bear its heat, Agni took it,
and when Agni also could not bear it, he dropped it in the foothills of Himaalaya.
There as born Shiv's son Kumaar, or Kaarttikeye, or Skand. When he was only six days
old he killed Taarakaasur.
(5) Taarakaasur's Three Sons
Taarakaasur had three sons - Kamalaaksh, Taarakaakshya, and Vidyunmaalee. His all the
sons performed severe Tap and asked Brahmaa Jee the boon that they should not be killed
by anybody of the world. Brahmaa jee said - "It is not possible, you ask for any
other boon." They said -- "Then allow us to live in three cities and rule the world.
After 1,000 years we will come together and so our cities. Then whoever will be the foremost
of all Devtaa will be the cause of our destruction." "So be it" and Brahmaa
Jee went away.
Now Taarakaaksh had a son
named Hari. He also did a great Tap and asked the Var Brahmaa Jee that there
should be a lake in our city that when a person killed by weapon is thrown in
that lake should come out alive and with double strength. Getting this Var from
Brahmaa Jee, Hari created such a lake in his golden city to make dead persons
alive with double the strength. This process revitalized Asur and they started
afflicting the three worlds more and more.
Then who killed these three
brothers and how? Brahmaa Jee told that only Shiv was able to kill them. Then
Sthaanu took half of all Devtaa's energy and since that time he was known as
Mahaadev. All Devtaa helped him to give something for his chariot, bow and arrow.
As the three cities came together in one line, Shiv shot his arrow and all of
the cities were destroyed.
(6) Vrikaasur
Vrikaasur was the son of Shakuni named Daitya. He asked Shiv Jee that "On
whoever's head I put my hand, he should be dead immediately". The wish was
strange but Shiv Jee said "So be it". Now he wished to have Paarvatee
Jee so he first thought to kill Shiv Jee himself. How he was killed?
Vrikaasur ran after
Shiv Jee to kill him and Shiv Jee ran away. Vishnu came to rescue - He stopped
Vrikaasur on the way and asked the reason of running so fast. Vrikaasur told
Him the whole story from his Tapasyaa to his Var. Bhagavaan said - "I would
not believe him, don't you know that he has become Pishaach after Daksh's Shaap?
You are such a great man, still you believe on his words? If you think he is Jagat
Guru, you can test it on yourself, otherwise kill that liar Shankar." Bhagavaan
said all this on such sweet words that he lost his logic and he put his hand on his
own head and died immediately.
[Bhaagvat Puraan,
10/u25]
(7) Shaalv
Shaalv who was the lover of Ambaa and a good friend of Shishupaal, vowed to kill all
Yadu Vanshee people after he got defeated when Krishn abducted Rukminee. He then did
Tap for Shiv Jee and asked the Var for a Vimaan which could not be broken by Devtaa,
Raakshas, human beings, Gandharv, and Naag; could go anywhere and should prove unfortunate
for Yadu Vanshee. Shankar Jee said "So be it." So with the permission of
Shankar Jee Maya Daanav built an iron Vimaan named Saubh and gave it to Shaalv. It was
almost a city. It was so dark that it was difficult to catch or see it. It was wish-driven.
So as Shaalv got this Vimaan, he attacked Dwaarakaa Puree. That war continued for 27 days.
Krishn killed him with His Chakra.
[Bhaagvat
Puraan, 10/u16]
(8) Jayadrath
When Paandav were in exile for 12 years, once Jayadrath harassed Draupadee and abducted
her in the absence of Paandav. When Paandav came to know about it, Bheem and Arjun brought
her back and Jayadrath was released only after shaving his head irregularly leaving five
flocks of hair on it. This was great insult to Jayadrath, so he did Tap for Shiv Jee and
asked the Var --
--"I should be able to check Paandav in the war."
Shiv Jee said - "You cannot check Arjun, but you will be able to check all other
four Paandav only for one day."
This was the 14th day of the MBH
war when Arjun was off the battlefield and Jayadrath was able to check the other four
Paandav entering Chakra Vyooh organized by Drone. He became the catalyst to kill
Arjun's son Abhimanyu.
