Use of Hanumaan Chaaleesaa
As told on the first page of
Hanumaan, Hanuman Chaaleesaa is the most sung or most recited prayer among
people of India. Children sing it with a great enthusiasm. It has been
written in Dohaaa Chaupaaee meters. Its one Chaupaaee "Bhoot Pishaach
Nikat Nahin Aavai, Mahaaveer Jab Naam Sunaavai" is even popular in Muslims
also.

Shree Guru Charan Saroj Raj, Nij Man Mukar Sudhaari,
Barnau Raghuvar Bimal Jasu, Jo daayaku Phal Chaari
Meaning - With the dust of Guru's Lotus feet, I clean the mirror
of my mind and then narrate the sacred glory of Ram Chandra, The Supreme among
the Raghu dynasty who is the giver of the four attainments of life.

Buddhi heen Tanu Jaanike, Sumirau, Pavan Kumaar,
Bal Budhi Vidyaa Dehu Mohi, Harahu Kalesh Bikaar
Meaning - Knowing myself to be ignorant, I urge you, O Hanuman,
The son of Pavan! O Lord! kindly Bestow on me strength, wisdom and knowledge,
removing all my miseries and blemishes.

Meaning - Victory of Thee, O Hanuman, Ocean of wisdom and virtue,
victory to the Lord of monkeys who is well known in all the three worlds

Ramdoot Atulit Bal Dhaamaa, Anjani Putra Pavansut naamaa.
Meaning - You, the Divine messenger of Raam and repository of
immeasurable strength, are also known as Anjaniputra and known as the son of
the wind - Pavanputra.

Mahaabeer Bikram Bajarangee, Kumati Nivaar Sumati Ke Sangee.
Meaning - O Hanuman Jee! You are valiant and brave, with a body like
lightening. You are the dispeller of darkness of evil thoughts and companion of good
sense and wisdom.

Kanchan Baran Biraaj Subesaa, Kanan kundal kunchit kesaa.
Meaning - Shri Hanuman jee's physique is golden colored. His dress
is pretty, Wearing 'Kundals' ear-rings and his hair is long and curly.

Haath Bajra Aur Dhwajaa Biraajai, Kaandhe Moonj Janeoo saaje.
Meaning - Shri Hanuman Jee is holding in one hand a lighting bolt and
in the other a banner with sacred thread across his shoulder.

Shankar Suvan Kesaree Nandan, Tej Prataap Mahaa Jag Vandan.
Meaning - Oh Hanuman Jee! You are the emanation of 'SHIV' and you
are the delight of Kesaree. Being ever effulgent, you and hold vast sway over the universe.
The entire world propitiates you and you are adorable to all.

Meaning - You are the repository of knowledge, virtuous, very
wise and highly keen to do the work of Shree Raam.

Meaning - You are intensely greedy for listening to the narration of
Raam's life story and revel on its enjoyment. You ever dwell in the hearts of

Sookshma roop Dhari Siyahi Dikhaavaa, Bikat roop Dhari Lank Jaraavaa
Meaning - You appeared before Seetaa in a diminutive form, while you
set Lanka on fire assuming an awesome form.

Bheem roop Dhari Asur Sanhaare, Raamchandra Ke kaaj Sanvaare.
Meaning - He, with his terrible form, killed demons in Lankaa and
performed all acts of Shree Raam.

Laaya Sajeevan Lakhan Jiyaaye, Shree Raghubeer harashi ur laaye.
Meaning - You brought Sanjeevan (Bootee) and brought Lakshman alive,
Shree Raam Jee embraced you deeply with his heart full of joy.

Raghupati Keenhee Bahut Badaaee, Tum Mama Priya Bharatahi Sam Bhaaee.
Meaning - Ram lustily extolled Hanumaan Jee's excellence and remarked,
"you are as dear to me as my own brother Bharat".

Sahas Badan Tumharo Jas Gaaven, Asa kahi Shreepati Kanth Laagave.
Meaning - Shree Raam embraced Hanumaan Jee saying: "Let the
thousand-tongued Shesh Naag sing your glories"

Sanakaadik Brahmaadi Muneesaa, Naarad Saarad Sahit Aheesaa
Meaning - Sanak and the sages, saints, Brahma, the great hermits
Naarad and Saraswatee along with Shesh Naag Jee (the cosmic serpent), fail to sing
the glories of Hanumaan Jee exactly.

Meaning - What to talk of denizens of the earth like poets and

Tum Upkaar Sugrivahi Keenhaa, Ram Milaaya Raajpad Deenhaa
Meaning - You rendered a great service to Sugreev, It were you who
united him with Shree Raam and installed him on the royal throne.

Tumharo Mantra Bibheeshan Maanaa, Lankeshwar Bhaye Sab Jag Jaanaa.
Meaning - By heeding your advice. Vibheeshan became the king of
Lankaa, which is known all over the universe.

Meaning - Hanumanji gulped, the Sun at distance of 1,000 X Yug
