One anecdote, taken from the Puraan, narrates that the treasurer of Swarg (Heaven or paradise) and god of wealth, Kuber, went one day to Mount Kailaash in order to receive the Darshan (vision) of Shiv Jee. Since he was extremely rich, he invited him to a feast in his fabulous city, Alakaa Puree, so that he could show off all of his wealth. Shiv Jee smiled and said to him - "Look, I cannot come, but you can invite my son Ganesh. But I warn you that he eats a lot." 

Kuber did not care for Shiv's statement and felt confident that he could satisfy even the most insatiable appetite, like that of Ganesh, with his treasure; so he took the little son of Shiv with him into his great city. There, he offered him a ceremonial bath and dressed him in beautiful clothing. After these initial rites, the great feast began. While the servants of Kuber were working themselves in order to bring the portions, the little Ganesh just continued to eat and eat, and eat and eat.... 

His appetite did not decrease even after he had eaten even those servings which were destined for the other guests. There was not even time to substitute one plate with another because Ganesh had already eaten everything by the time another plate came, and with gestures of impatience, continued to wait for more food. Having eaten everything which had been prepared, Ganesh Jee began eating the decorations, the tableware, the furniture, the chandelier.... Terrified, Kuber prostrated himself in front of the little boy and prayed him to spare him, at least, the rest of the palace.

"I am hungry. If you don't give me something else to eat, I will eat you as well!", he said to Kuber. Desperate, Kuber rushed to mount Kailaash to ask Shiv to find the solution of the situation. Shiv Jee then gave him a handful of roasted rice (Murmuraa or Mamra or Laaee), saying that something as simple as a handful of roasted rice would satiate Ganesh, if it was offered with humility and love. Kuber brought it to his home as soon as possible and offered him with great humility. Ganesh Jee had swallowed up almost the entire city when Kuber finally arrived at his palace and humbly gave him that rice. With that little rice, Ganesh Jee was finally satisfied and calmed down.
