Mangal or Mars, Bhaum is the son of Prithvi.

It is in Varaah Kalp when Hiranyakashyap's elder brother Hiranyaaksh stole Prithvi and Hari incarnated as Varaah and brought her from there, At that time Prithvi got very happy to see Bhagavaan and she thought to marry Him. To fulfill her wish Bhagavann assumed His beautiful form ans stayed with her for one whole year. At that time they had a sob named Mangal (Brahm Vaivart Puraan, 2.8.29-43), In this way there are several stories of the birth of Mangal in various Kalp. When he is worshipped he is addressed as Bharadwaaj (Ganesh Puraan)

Mangal in Astrology
Mangal Dosh is very famous in Vaidik astrology. He is considered inauspicious planet and he is not Vakree, then he passes each Raashi (Sign) in 3 weeks, thus the whole zodiac in 1 and 1/2 years.

It affects marriage opportunities, married life etc. Many remedies for this Dosh are in vogue.
When he is pleased, he fulfills all wishes of a person.
Bhavishya Puraan says that one should worship Mangal's golden idol by keeping fast on Tuesday, writing Bhaum Yantra on a copper plate.
If one recites Manga's names, one becomes debt-free.

To pacify Mangal,
one should worship Shiv.
Donate copper, gold, wheat, red cloth, Gud (jaggery), red sandalwood, red flowers, Kesar, Kastooree, red bull, Massor Daal, land etc.
Keep fast on Tuesday and recite Hanumaan Chaaleesaa.

His period is of 7 years and following are the Mantra to pacify him. To pacify him one should recite any of the following Mantra 10,000 times, preferably in the morning at 8.00 AM.--
