11-Varg-D-2-1
Divisions of a Rashi Varg/Ansh of wealth and prosperity:
Horaa, Chaturthaansh and Shodashaansh
D-2 Horaa -- A Horaa of a Raashi comprises of 15°
Hora Interpretaion
Horaa only has the meanings and
significations of the 2nd house, all Raashi and therefore Bhaav have two Horaa,
a solar and a lunar one. Stick to Parashara's Hora Chart! All other Hora Charts
are modern inventions, and in fact D-4 and D-16 Vargas are the Varg detailing
more money matters, wealth and prosperity (not the special Horaa charts). D-2
is highly related to main chart and it only consists only of two Raashi/Bhaav:
Cancer and Leo, planets in Cancer are in Moon's Horaa and planets in Leo are in
Sun's Horaa.
Calculation:
In odd Raashi the first 15 degrees belong to the Sun (Leo), the last 15
degrees belong to Moon (Cancer).
In even Raashi the first 15 degrees belong to Moon (Cancer), the last 15
degrees belong to the Sun (Leo).
Odd Raashi are male Raashi: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius.
Even Raashi are female Raashi: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces.
Use:
Hora Varga is a basic Varga. It indicates a solar (if planet posited in
Sun's Horaa) or a lunar (if posited in Moon's Horaa) status. Planets in
solar status are more active and extroverted, while Planets in lunar
status are more passive and receptive.
Male planets (Sun, Mars, Jupiter) give pronounced effects when placed in Sun's Horaa.
Female Planets (Moon, Venus) give pronounced effects when placed in Moon's Horaa.
Saturn gives pronounced effects when placed in Moon's Horaa,
Mercury gives effects in both Horaa.
A planet posited in a Hora (Sun or Moon) where he can give pronounced
effects has the potency to achieve and accumulate wealth and prosperity.
According to BPHS planets placed in the first third of a Hora (0°-5°,
15°-20°) give full effects,
in the middle third of a Hora (5°-10°, 20°-25°) medium effects and
in the last third of a Hora (10°-15°, 25°-30°) 'nil' effects
(realistically seen limited effects).
According to Phal Deepika, Malefics (Sun, Mars, Saturn, Raahu and Ketu)
placed in Sun's Horaa are favorable and auspicious, Benefics (Moon,
Jupiter, Venus) are better posited in Moon's Horaa.
Brihat Jataka maps the first Hora of a Rashi to the Lord of that Rashi itself and
the second Hora of a Raashi to the Lord to the eleventh Raashi of it.
This would result in the following Lordships --
Aries: 1st Hora (Aries)
Mars/Pluto,
2nd Hora (Aquarius) Saturn/Uranus,
Taurus: 1st Hora (Taurus) Venus/Moon,
2nd Hora (Pisces) Jupiter/Neptune
Gemini: 1st Hora (Gemini) Mercury/Rahu,
2nd Hora (Aries) Mars/Pluto
Cancer: 1st Hora (Cancer) Moon,
2nd Hora (Taurus) Venus/Moon
Leo: 1st Hora (Leo) Sun,
2nd Hora (Gemini) Mercury/Rahu
Virgo: 1st Hora (Virgo) Mercury,
2nd Hora (Cancer) Moon
Libra: 1st Hora (Libra) Venus,
2nd Hora (Leo) Sun
Scorpio: 1st Hora (Scorpio) Mars,
2nd Hora (Virgo) Mercury
Sagittarius: 1st Hora (Sagittarius) Jupiter/Ketu, 2nd Hora (Libra) Venus
Capricorn: 1st Hora (Capricorn) Saturn,
2nd Hora (Scorpio) Mars
Aquarius: 1st Hora (Aquarius) Saturn/Uranus,
2nd Hora (Sagittarius) Jupiter/Ketu
Pisces: 1st Hora (Pisces) Jupiter/Neptune,
2nd Hora (Capricorn) Saturn
Note: Some astrologers work
with special Horaa Charts like 'Kashinatha Hora' or others. Some are having
some tradition but not mentioned in most important ancient scriptures. Others
are inventions by modern astrologers, you do not need them - use Chaturthaansh
Varg (D-4) and Shodashaansh Varg (D-16) as real and significant Hora Charts,
indicating your wealth and prosperity.
For Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius Rashis
(1) 0°-15° - Leo, Sun's Hora
(2) 15°-30° - Cancer, Moon's Hora
For Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces Rashis
(1) 0°-15° - Cancer, Moon's Hora
(2) 15°-30° - Leo, Sun's Hora
D-3 Dreshkkaan -- 1/3rd of a Raashi comprises of 10 degrees
[BPHS, Ch. 6, 7]
7-8. Dreshkkaan. 1/3rd of a Rashi is called Dreshkkaan. These are totally
36, counted from Mesh, repeating thrice at the rate of 12 per round. The
1st, 5th and the 9th from a Rashi are its three Dreshkkaan and are,
respectively, lorded by Naarad, Agastya and Durvaasaa Rishi.
Use - 'happiness through co-born from Dreshkkaan'
15-16. Full, medium and nil will be the effects, respectively, in the
beginning, middle and the end of a Horaa. Similar applications be made for
a Dreshkkaan, Turyaansh, Navaamsh etc.
[BPHS CH. 44]
38-39. Fate of the Human Physical System. Should there be a Benefic's
Dreshakaan in Randhra Bhaav (22nd Dreshkana), the body will be burnt in
fire (as prescribed in Shaastra). If a malefic's Dreshakaan happens to be
in Randhra Bhaav, the body will be thrown away in water. If the Dreshkkaan
in Randhra Bhaav is owned by a mixed Graha, the dead body will only dry up.
If the Dreshkkaan in Randhra Bhaav is a serpent Dreshkkaan, the body will
be eaten away by animals, crows etc.
40. Serpent Dreshkkaan. The 2nd and 3rd Dreshkan in Kark Raashi, the
initial one in Vrishchik Raashi and the last one in Meen Raashi are
designated, as serpent Dreshkkaan.
[Phaala Deepika, Ch. 3]
4. The Dreshkaan or the 1/3rd portions of a sign belong to the Lords of
the sign itself, of the 5th house and of the 9th house.
11. If the Lord of the Dreshkkaan of the Ascendant be strong, the person
concerned will achieve the status like that of a king.
13. The appearances of the Dreshkkaans are as under the last Dreshkkaans
or decants of Leo, Aries, Sagittarius, Libra and Gemini; the 1st decants
of Sagittarius and Aries and the 2nd ones of Virgo and Gemini are called
Ayudha Dreshkkans or 'armed' decants. The 2nd decant of Scorpio is called
'Paash' (noose). The 1st decant of Capricorn is called 'Nigala'. The 1st
decants of Leo and Aquarius and the 2nd one of Libra are vulture faced.
The first decant of Taurus is like a 'Pakshee' (bird) and the first decant
of Cancer has a face like a pig.
14. The 1st decant of Scorpio and the 3rd ones of Cancer and Pisces are
called Serpent decants. The 2nd decants of Aries and Taurus, the first of
Leo and last of Scorpio are named as quadruped decants. The persons born
when these decants are rising will be poor, cruel and unscrupulous.
--In a dual sign, the three decants in their order will be Adham (bad),
Madhyam (moderate) and Uttam (good).
--In the case of a moveable sign, the order is reversed, that is, the 1st
will be Uttam and the 2nd will be Madhyam and the last one is Adham.
--In a fixed sign the order will be Adhama, Uttama and Madhyam. The
effects will be in accordance with the names of the decants.
15. If the Lord of the Lagna Dreshkkaan be in his own Varg, be associated
with a benefic or be in his sign of exaltation or in a friendly house; if
the rising Trishaansh, Dwaadashaansh or Hora endowed with strength be in a
similar position, the native will be gifted with all noble qualities, will
be pure, clever, long lived, sympathetic and wealthy, will be blessed with
children, will be widely renowned and will enjoy royal comforts.
17. The person concerned will be gifted with attractive appearance and
good qualities, if the Moon be in his own Dreshkkaan or a friend's decant.
If the Moon has attained an Uttam Varg, the native will be fortunate. If
she is posited elsewhere, the native will be endowed with qualities
belonging to the planet who is the lord of the Moon's sign.
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 3]
14. Lords of Decants - The Lords of decants are first Lord of the same
Raashi, 2nd Lord of the 5th Raashi there from and the 3rd Lord of the 9th
from the Raashi in question.
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 4]
38. Dreshkkaan Bal - Male planets are strong in the 1st decant, female planets
in the 3rd decant and neutral planets in the 2nd decant of a Raashi. Planets are
strong, only when they are away from the Sun, as per Yavan.
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 5]
31. A planet in its own decant confers virtues.
[Chapter 50 in
Saravali describes effects of all Dreshkkaans in all Rashis.]
[Brihat Jaatak, Ch. 1, St 12]
They further say that the Lords of the Dreshkkaan are: (1) the Lord of
the 1st, (2) the Lord of the 12th, and (3) the lord of the 11th houses
respectively.
D-4 Chaturthaansh -- A Chaturthaansh of a Raashi comprises of 7.5°
Calculation:
The 1st Chaturthaansh is ruled by the sign of the Rashi itself,
the 2nd Chaturtamsa is ruled by the sign in following Kendra (4th to 1st Chaturthaansh),
the 3rd Chathurthamsa by the next following Kendra (7th to 1st Chaturthaansh) and
the 4th Chaturthamsa is ruled by the next following Kendra (10th to 4th Chaturthaansh).
Use:
The Kendras provide the fundament of our life - Chaturthaansh as real 'Horaa
Chart' (indicating 'Bhaagya', fortunes in our life as the 4th Bhava, which
is Argala place) is based on Kendra Raashi.
Chaturthaansh are related to the Bhaav Kaarak of the 4th Bhaav, Moon and Venus.
All indications from 4th Bhaav can be derived from Graha's placements in Chaturthaansh:
(a) fortunes, prosperity, property, wealth, family issues, comforts, luxuries, conveyances
(b) inner self, mind, mentality, inner peace, feelings, emotions
(c) mother, atmosphere in family, basic education
A Graha negatively placed (in malefic Chaturthaansh or Yuti with a
malefic therein) indicates problems related to the themes of the 4th
Bhaav, a positively posited (in benefic Chaturthaansh or Yuti with a
benefic therein) provides fortunes related to the 4th Bhaav themes.

D-8 Ashtaansh -- An Ashtaansh of a Raashi comprises of 3.45°.
Calculation:
The 1st Ashtaansh is lorded by Saturn, the 2nd by Jupiter, the 3rd by Mars,
the 4t by Sun, the 5th by Venus, the 6th by Mercury, the 7th by Moon and
the 8th by Lagna. This is valid for all Rashis.
Use:
Ashtamsas and Ashtaansh Varg are related to the 8th Bhaav and its themes:
money from other people, testaments and inheritances, fortunes in
investments and speculations, financial expenditures, great financial and
wealth changes/transformation
Ashtaansh are related to the Bhaav Kaarak of the 8th Bhaav, Saturn.

D-9 Navaansh - A Navaansh of a Raashi comprises of 3.3 degrees
Calculation
- [BPHS, Ch. 6, 7]
12. Navaansh - The Navaansh calculations are for a Movable Rashi from
there itself, for a Fixed Rashi from the 9th thereof and for a Dual Rashi
from the 5th thereof. They go by designations Dev (divine), Manushya
(human) and Raakshas (devilish) in a successive and repetitive order for
a Movable Raashi. (Manushya, Raakshas and Dev are the order for a Fixed
Raashi, while Raakshas, Manushya and Dev are for a Dual Rashi's order).
Use
- 'spouse from Navaansh'
[Phal Deepika, Ch. 3]
4. The first Navaansh in the signs from Aries onwards begins respectively
with Aries, Capricorn, Libra and Cancer.
16. Note the Raashi of Mandee [= Gulikaa] at birth and also where the Lord
of that Raashi is posited. The Ascendant at birth will be in a house 5th
or 9th to that of the aforesaid lord or one triangular to the Navaansh
occupied by the lord of the Raashi representing the Navaansh occupied by
the Mandee. It may be triangular to the Navaansh Raashi occupied by Gulika.
But if the Moon be strong, the Ascendant should be ascertained similarly
through the Moon and not through Mandee.
[Mandi and Gulika are
synonyms for Mantreswara.]
[Phaala Deepika, Ch. 5]
The profession of the native will be that assigned to the Lord of the
Navaansh occupied by the Lord of the 10th house from the Lagna, from the
Moon and the Sun (severally) whoever is the strongest.
9. If the lord of the Navaamsh be strong, there will be accrual of wealth
without any obstacle or exertion. If it be weak, very little earning may be
expected. The country from which the accrual of wealth will be indicated by
the sign representing the 10th house or the Navaansh occupied by the Lord of
the 10th house. If the sign be occupied or aspected by its Lord, the source of
income will be found in his own country. The same will happen when the Navaansh
occupied by the Lord of the 10th house by a fixed sign. If the sign of the 10th
House be occupied or aspected by planet other than its Lord, the person concerned
will earn in the place other than his native land.
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 3]
13. Vargottamaansh - The 1st Navansha of a Movable Raashi, the 5th one in
a Fixed Raashi and the 9th one in a Common (Dual) Raashi are called
Vargottamaansh. Should the natal Lagna be in such Vargottama Navaansh, the
native becomes an important person in his circle. The rulers of Dwaadashaansh
start from that Raashi itself.
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 5]
31. A planet in its own decant confers virtues, while the one in own
Navaansh makes one famous.
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 47]
22. Kharaa Dreshkkaan - The 22nd decanate from the Ascendant will denote
the nature of ones death. For example, by the nature of its Lord, (i.e.
the humour, place etc.)
[Kalyana Varmas Saravali, Ch. 51]
1. A natives complexion, disposition and appearance can be deduced based
on the rising Navansa at birth. The effects being stated infra will depend
on the stronger of the two, viz. the Moons Navaansh dispositor and the
Navaansh Lagna Lord.
37. Thus spoke of the decanates the preceptors well-versed in that branch.
Should the Sign holding the decanate be strong, or be aspected by its
Lord, these effects will mature in full.
110. ABOUT OTHER DIVISIONS. The
effects described in regard to individual Signs [in Navaansh] apply to
Dwadashaamsas of each Sign as well. Regarding effects for various other
divisions not explained, the effects related to Saptaansh will apply.
Chapter 51 in
Saravali describes effects of all Navaansh in all Raashi.
[Brihat Jataka, Ch. 8, Stanza 7]
If a planet is in a good house and joins debilitated or unfriendly
Navaamsh, it gives mixed results.
D-16 Shodashaansh -- A Shodashaansh of a Raashi comprises of 1°52'30"
Calculation:
The counting occurs in the normal order, 1st Shodash Ansh is that of Aries,
2nd Shodash Ansh that of Taurus, 3rd that of Gemini and so on (through the
whole zodiac). Consequence is that all movable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra,
Capricorn) start with Aries Shodasamsa, all fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio,
Aquarius) start with Leo Shodash Ansh and all dual signs (Gemini, Virgo,
Sagittarius, Pisces) start with Sagittarius Shodashaansh.
Use:
Shodash Ansh are related to 2nd, 4th and 11th Bhaav. According to BPHS it even
has more significance than D-4 and many other Varg! In fact, Shodashaansh is
the real and best Horaa Chart (and D-11 chart, by the way).
Shodashaansh are related to the Bhaav Kaaraks of the 2nd, 4th and 11th
Bhaav, Jupiter, Moon and Venus.
As Chaturthaamsha (D-4) it is therefore related to the following themes:
fortunes, prosperity, property, wealth, comforts, luxuries, conveyances,
all material pleasures. According to BPHS it indicates the inner satisfaction
we derive from out property, prosperity and wealth as well.

How to interpret Planets in Ansh of Raashi?
Analyze planet in Ansh of Rashi
a) as a natural significator standing for particular themes,
b) as Lord of one or two Bhaav in main chart and
c) as Char Kaarak.
1. Look at the sign of a planet placed in an Amsa and be aware of its
significations (with regard to the special theme of the Varg chart). The
nine Basic Avasthaa are very important (without regarding temporary
friendships of planets).
2. Look which other planets are Yuti (in conjunction) with this planet.
3. Look which signs are giving aspects to this planets (only Rashi Drishti).
4. Look at the Lord of this Ansh/sign (therefore the dispositor of planets
posited in it) and the planets in conjunction with him.
5. Transfer the sign of this Amsa to the main chart (D-1) and look which
Bhava it is.
(In JHora you can change Lagna with right
mouse click - take Lagna or Moon sign from D-1 as Lagna for all Varg,
secondarily you can take all planets as Lagna in Varg.)
Then draw your conclusions:
- Is a planet posited in a sign of a benefic (Taurus, Cancer, Libra,
Sagittarius, Pisces) or be placed in a sign of a malefic (Aries, Leo,
Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius)? If Mercury is not Yuti with a malefic in
main chart or not receiving more malefic aspects than benefic aspects,
Gemini and Virgo also become benefic signs. If Rahu and Ketu are strong
(close or exact Yuti with a planet) in main chart, Gemini and Sagittarius
could become malefic signs due to their Mool Trikon in them.
- Is a planet posited in a sign of a planetary friend of him, of a planet
neutral to him or a planetary enemy to him?
- Is a planet in this Ansh Yuti with a benefic and/or a malefic? With a
friend or an enemy? Which Lord of D-1 Bhava he is Yuti with?
- Is a planet receiving benefic and malefic Raashi Drishti?
- Is the lord of this planet placed in a sign of a benefic or a malefic,
Yuti with benefic or malefic (same procedure as above)?
These are the sufficient steps to understand a planetary placement in a
varga. Neglecting this analysis you'll certainly draw wrong conclusions,
regarding personality traits of the person analyzed and especially regarding
Dashaa periods (planetary periods).
Important notes:
1. I do not recommend using Graha Drishti in Varg Charts as Varg do
not represent real placements of planets like in D-1 main chart. Same
applies for Argalaa and Virodh Argalaa (Vipareet Argala).
2. Furthermore I do not recommend transferring the meanings of Bhaav in
D-1 main chart into Divisional Charts for the same reason (which often
happens). For example, 2nd Rashi from Lagna in Navamsa does not hint at
your wealth from the Dharma perspective! Correct use of Varga is: Look at
the Lord of the 2nd Bhava and the Bhaav Karakas of 2nd Bhaav and follow
the steps 1 - 5 described above.
3. Varg Charts are based on divisions of Raashi, they are not charts
existing independently of D-1 main chart. Do not get confused because they
have the same appearance as the main chart in your software - they are in
fact no 'charts' but collections of Ansh, particular spans of Raashi.
[Phal Deepika by Mantreswara, Ch. 15, Sl. 30]
[The Five Planetary Connections]
30. The following are the five recognised connections or relations between two planets:
(1) When they occupy mutually each other's sign.
(2) When they are conjoined.
(3) When there is mutual aspect between them.
(4) When they are in Kendra position with respect to each other.
(5) When they are in Trikon position with reference to each other.
This applies to Ansha of Rashi as well - planets in Kendra from the
analyzed planet provide a stable fundament, planets in Trikon support
the analyzed planets (with his natural and functional themes, lordship
taken from main chart).
D-27 - Nakshatraansh, Bhaansh
Calculations
- [BPHS, Ch. 6, 7]
24-26. Saptavimshaamsha (Nakshatraansh, or Bhaansh). The Sapta-vinshaansh
Lords are, respectively, the presiding deities of the 27 Nakshatra, as
