As Mahaa Sankraanti marks the movement of the Sun to Makar Raashi from Dhanu Raashi marking the start of Uttaraayan, it is invariably associated with Soorya Dev. In this connection, attached here are three very rare Stuti on of Soorya Dev.

(1) Aaditya Hridayam
In Aaditya Hridayam is a very powerful Stotra of Soorya Dev. It was given by sage Agastya Muni to Raam when Raam was unable to kill Raavan - Vaalmeeki Ramayan, 6/105/1-31 - the whole Sarg.

(2) Aaditya Hridaya Stotra
This is not the Vaalmeeki Raamaayan one. That one is different one. Recite 200 Mantra. p 107

(3) Balaark Ashtottar
There are several Ashtottar (at least 3-5), several Sahastra Naam (I know at least 3 - Vishnu Sahstra Naam, Shiv Sahastra Naam, Lalitaa Sahastra Naam) and there are many Kavach and Stotra for Soorya Dev too. There is also a very rare Balaark Ashtottar (roughly translated as Sun during Brahm Muhoort time) in Skand Puraan (I have forgotten to mark this page on the book but will share this in due course after locating it).

(4) Soorya Hridayam
In Koorm Puraan - everyone knows about Aaditya Hridayam (given to Lord Raam by Sage Agastya during his war with Raavan in Vaalmeeki Raamaayan, Yuddh Kaand) but this is another Hridayam on Soorya Dev from Koorm Puraan. This appears as part of description of duties for Grihasth and this is prescribed for chanting daily during Sandhyopaasanaa at the time of Soorya Upasthaan. A unique thing about this Hridayam is that it is a prayer for Soorya Dev who is praised as if he is Shiv but appears in a Puraan (Koorm) characterized as Vaishnavite.

(5) Soorya Mantra/ Kavacham/ Stotra Rajam
In Brahm Vaivart Puraan - this consists of 3 parts viz. Soorya Mantra, Soorya Kavacham and Soorya Stotra Rajam within the same chapter of Brahm Vaivart Puraan which describes Soorya Poojaa Vidhi and worship of Soorya in Pushkar Kshetra. All these Stotra are said to be the most potent remedies for all kinds of diseases.

(6) Soorya Shat Naam Stotram
In Dharm Puraan - this a rare 100 names of Soorya from Brihad Dharm Puraan.

Some Other Things About Soorya Dev

Though Soorya worship is prescribed and included in almost all Puraan, Saamb Puraan is exclusively devoted to Soorya worship. Brahm Puraan also contains several chapters on Soorya worship.

There are several important Soorya Kshetra - Konaark, Pushkar, Arasavillee in Aandhra Pradesh, Sooryanaar Koil in Tamilnaadu, and many many more.

Lord Soorya is considered Gyaan Kaarak (from the astrological perspective, he is considered Aatm Kaarak). He is closely associated with Shukla Yajur Ved of Sage Yaagyavalkya, who was forced out to give his education back to his uncle Sage Vaishampaayan and therefore gave back the Yajur Ved he learnt from him in the form of fire (one can understand his powers that he gave form of fire to knowledge!). He later prayed Goddess Saraswatee who in turn instructs him to learn Ved from Soorya. Shukla Yajur Ved was thus born.

Though Soorya is not considered among the trinity, he is indeed the trinity and the Para-Brahm, as per the Pauraanik texts. This we confirm every day during our Sandhyopaasanaa (asaavaadityo brahma) and Aditya Hridayam also reiterates the same.

Going back to Soorya Hridayam and its uniqueness - we all know that Lord Soorya is often treated as Lord Soorya Naaraayan but this prayer mentions him as an embodiment of Lord Rudra. From the astrological point of view, Lord Rudra is the Ati-devata of the Sun. This again underlines the fact that Sanaatan Dharm corroborates that the Para-Brahm is just but one and it bears several names (ekam sat, vipraa bahudhaa vadanti).

I have never come across (so far) any justification or prescription of current day bickering that happens among various Panth (isms) within Hinduism - especially the Vaishnavite/ Shaivite rivalry (which fortunately is confined to the greater Tamil Naadu of the medieval times) which must be the result of later day political struggles and one-upmanship and nothing to do with religiosity and spirituality since Hinduism never advocates any form of fanaticism as itself openly advocates worship of Para-Brahm in pluralistic forms.

To be precise, people are only severely warned of any attempt to create differences among the various forms of Para-Brahm - this message is not confined to any one particular Puraan or text. This message keeps repeating in every Puraan - be it Vaishnavite or Shaivite. Further, the message gets repeated umpteen number of times within the same Puraan. A couple of samples (countless are such examples):

Krishn declares that He does not live in Go Lok or Vaikunth - He lives in the heart of Shankar Jee and there is no Bhakt beyond Shankar (Brahm Vaivart Puraan, Krishn Janm Khand, Chapter 36):

श्रीकृष्ण उवाच -
शंकरः परमात्मा मे प्राणेभ्योऽपि परः शिवः त्र्यम्बके मन्मनः शश्वन् न प्रिया मे भवात् परः॥
न संवसामि गोलोकं वैकुण्ठे तव वक्षसि । सदा शिवस्य हृदये निबद्धः प्रेम पाशतः॥
पञ्च वक्त्रेण मन् नाम यो हि गायत्यहर्निशम । मद् रूपं ध्यायते शश्वन् न भक्तः शंकरात् परः॥

Koorm (Vishnu) in Koorm Puraan (Chapter 9) declares that Shiv indeed is the Pradhaan Purusheshwar and admonishes Brahmaa of ignoramuses:

श्रीकूर्म उवाच -
किं न पश्यसि योगेशं ब्रह्माधिपतिं अव्ययम् । प्रधान पुरुषेशानं वेदाहं परमेश्वरम्॥ ९ - ४२॥
यं न पश्यन्ति योगीन्द्राः सांख्या अपि महेश्वरम् । अनादि निधनं ब्रह्म तमेव शरणम् व्रज॥ ९- ४३॥

In Ling Puraan, Vishnu declares that He Himself and Brahmaa Jee are fulfilling the Aagyaa of Shiv (Ling Puraan, Uttar Bhaag, Chapter 6, Verses 85-89). The same message comes in Kalki Puraan as well (as he takes permission of Bilvodakeshwar to take Kalki Avataar).

On the other hand, Shiv declares himself as the first and foremost in Vaishnavite Puraan - Brahm Vaivart Puraan and several other Puraan. He severely admonishes Nandee and Shiv Gan who cast aspersions on Naaraayan saying that they are doing this because of ignorance and ego (Vaaman Puraan, Chapter 67) and that he himself is Jagannaath. Those who do this are essentially inviting themselves for a sojourn in gory hells.
